What's the Purpose of Repeat Columns?

I noticed when you set up a customized view, you have the option of repeat columns. What's the point or purpose? Why would you want to repeat columns?

Good question. I was setting some views and filters recently and thought the same thing.

Most views in this game have too many columns to repeat, either by default or by customized design. I usually pack as much into my views as I can, column-wise. Say, however, that you do have a view with relatively few columns and lots of white space (first screen print, Repeat Columns set to Once). If you repeat the columns, you can get more entries onto one screen and maybe cut down on some scrolling or page turning (second screen print, Repeat Columns set to Twice).

i still can't see any point other than maybe making it easier to track horizontally as you scan left to right from a name? we can't even move columns around can we? so it's just wherever they plop the 2nd ones down at the end?

it doesn't put more rows on the screen so i don't see the benefit to scrolling/page turning. adding columsn doesn't reduce overall width, but could help readability.

i do dislike the white space on the event list when i go in there to remove the all-star game (keeps votes, results). the way a row higlights when a mouse hovers over it shouldnt also be one of the 2 alternating row colors (white/grey). that kind of defeats the purpose of the alternating row background and highlighting what the mouse is over. every other line it's camoflagued. better ways to avoid that then repeating info (non end-user).

As is often the case, I'm not entirely sure if I'm following you correctly, but repeating the columns does put more rows on the screen, as Bru's 2nd screenshot shows. Up to twice as many, if the player list is long enough.

LoL i am reading it too literally... repeat... i thoguht it was just a duplication... I couldn't figure out what the point was!! HAHAHA

i see it's actualyl new information, not repeated. makes alot more sense now, thanks.

i thoguht he meant more # of rows... i'm thinkin what's it do... change the font size? lol it was a little mistated (same # of rows, not more, but more info), but my mistake was before that.. fundamental screw up about the concept in my brain long before that explanation.

Well, one thing you said suggests a valid criticism, in my opinion:

Comparing the "Repeat Columns Once" screen print to the "Repeat Columns Twice" screen print, notice how the first ranked player heads column set 1 and the second ranked player heads column set 2 with rankings alternating left and right in the "Repeat Columns Twice" view. I find that a bit disconcerting in that I would expect the columns on the left would be the players ranked in order with the player on top of the right-hand columns to be, say, number 50 in rank instead of number 2. Instead, the order is left, right, down, left, right, down, etc. in the "Repeat Columns Twice" view.

Here, this is what I am talking about. My previous examples were not sorted but these are, by JAWS. Notice Pina ranked first, Turner second, etc., from top to bottom in the "Repeat Columns Once" view and how they go back and forth in the "Repeat Columns Twice" view:

More than once i have deleted the wrong league event... while in 1080p or higher resoution... too much white!

i was wondersing how they did the order after my last post.. left to right or down then right... makes sense to be able to do both. i can't think of 2 differnet contexts nor putting any effort into it, but i'm sure there are.

My eye likes to stay on one line (horizontal or vertical)... so, not somethign i'd make use of due to my habits, but i'm sure many could. i don't use full page skips etiher-- alghough if the list is big enough i think it automatically uses that feature... somethign that doesn't happen with filters.

i'd love it if it were a true split screen... different filters and sorting on each side.. i would defeinitly make use of that and save some custom views. otherwise it purely about how your eye tracks things... i don't mind scrolling down. moving up and to the right or back and forth takes longer --- haha sounds petty right? i always limit slow stuff - i.e. keyboard > mouse in almost all aspects. only my thoughts slow me down.. think of the old superCalc spreadsheets in DOS, lol. twice as fast as excel when setting things up (excel actually had the same shortcuts at one time, assume it still does). just a bit larger learning curve, but well worht it. gui controls are slow and cumbersome in comparison.

or an expansion of the compare player screen.. should be compare Player(s) plural. easier than using filters for a small list of specific names.
