Best way to quickly resize images?
I have a bunch of logos that I need to resize to 150x150 and for some reason, my Mac's Viewer won't let me edit the size and save to the same file. It wants to create a copy of it somewhere else. I've confirmed it's not a permissions issue. What's the easiest and fastest way to get the logos resized?

I use FastStone Photo Resizer... Its free and there should be a version for Mac... It can do a lot more than just resize...

GIMP is another good free Mac software for editing. But if you want to stay using Mac's Preview app, you should be able to go to Tools > Adjust Size. Then input 150 x 150 pixels. Then to save go to File > Export and save as a PNG. Also make sure that 'Alpha' is checked (assuming the logos have transparent backgrounds).

FastStone seems to go pretty quickly imo, depending on the size and original format of the file you are resizing... It can do multiple files at the same time and can save in different formats and rename them if you so desire...

I'm a big fan of ImageMagick for batch operations. It's a command-line tool, so you need to have some comfort in the terminal. But it's crazy powerful, I actually use it behind the scenes to do some image manipulation in the Jersey and Cap Makers.
Cactuslab · ImageMagick installer for Mac OS X Once it's installed, it's pretty simple. Open up a terminal, navigate to the folder where all your PNGs are and enter this: Code:
magick mogrify -resize 150x150 -background transparent -gravity center -extent 150x150 -format png *.png Last edited by eriqjaffe; 12-03-2016 at 01:58 PM. |

I'm not sure if it can do recursive folders by itself, but you might be able to do some scripting or possibly piping the output of a "find" command.
