84-95 Best Teams League
My "golden years" of baseball were when I was 7-18 years old. Like anyone who loves baseball I guess. That's when I got into it and devoured all things baseball. Still do, but of course when you watch baseball growing up there's something special about it. And of course the game's not the same any more since the offensive explosion.
Anyway, for my first OOTP league I created the Time Travel League. I took the old East/West division formats and imported each team's best year of my choice. Below are the standings. Note that the number after each team is the year that I imported them from. I know some of my picks are a little debatable, like why 91 Twins rather than 87 Twins? In the case of multiple good teams I just put in the team I remember best to make it most fun for me. Some teams didn't have a season in the period where they finished 1st so I just chose a season where they did fairly well. I controlled the 89 Cubs. Did rather crappy! The 89 Cubs actually don't match up very well at all to most of these teams. 1989 was really sort of an off year for almost every team but the A's! Sutcliffe and Maddux both with substantial injuries at one point really hurt though. Anyway here's the results with playoffs at the bottom. I can post League Leaders and such if anyone's interested. Oh and in the case of multiple versions of the same player, I went in and added the year of that version of the player behind their last name. Kind of funny! So there were two Hal Morris's for instance, one on the '90 Reds and one on the '94 Yankees. Many other players too. I don't want to do that again, it took forever!!! Code:

Wow, the '88 Dodgers did pretty well for being the "worst lineup in World Series history" (according to Bob Costas - quote might be off by a bit). Hershiser and the rest of the rotation must have carried them for months at a time.
Go ahead and post league leaders. I'm definitely interested. This was also a time when I was at my peak attention to the MLB. |

93 Braves were better than the 93 phillies. Even the 93 Giants were better. Top 4 NL Homerun list in 93 was: Bonds SF. Justice ATl, Gant ATL, and Mcgriff ATL. Not to mention the braves pitching staff w/ a newly aquired Greg Maddux and a Jeff BLauser hitting .300. Braves would have beat the phillies but they had a dog fight for the west w/ SF!

Yeah in many of the cases I picked the 1st year a team won their division, plus I favored the years 88-91 because those are the years I was REALLY into baseball (when I collected baseball cards heavily).
The '92 or '93 Blue Jays would have been stronger than the '89 Jays too, but '89 has a special place in my heart. And of course the Jays did win the division that year too. Then Canseco hit a monster home run into like the 3rd deck of the Skydome in the playoffs... I will post the league leaders this evening. Carl |

Just wanted to say, being from Toronto, the 85 Jays won 99 games, won their divsion, and were up 3-1 in the ALCS before a huge collapse. The 89 Jays were probalby the worst Jay team to ever make the playoffs. OH WELl. Hope the Jays do well in your league

I was 8 years old in '85 and don't remember them too well. Like I said, '89 has a special place in my heart due to the Cubs. Damn Giants... damn Will Clark...

Interesting results. Those are similar to my best baseball years too. It was better watching baseball growing up and thinking I somehow had a realistic shot at the majors.
I watched a lot more baseball in those days than I do now.
