Trade Question

I am curious if this is just me or am I doing something wrong... I put together a deal the other GM says he needs to think about it. Two days later he replies, ok, we are close and if you throw in one of these guys I am willing to deal. And then he lists 5 players.

So I go back to the discuss trade add one of the players, and he doesn't want to complete the deal, as he said he would, but wants to think about it... so two days later he comes back and says "no".

Does that make sense? Shouldn't the GM just go ok, lets deal thanks??

It is annoying as I think I should have a deal and then the other GM pulls out...

Is that just how it is or am I missing something?

TIA.

you're not missing anything. Just the way it works, in real life as well. I've had deals already to accept, and then i toss in a player i have no need of (basically giving him away), and the reply is i just insulted the other GM .... i think it's just part of the variables in the game to keep it interesting, but you're not doing anything wrong - at least based on my experiences.

there is always constant change in the ratings of players, too. regardless of the scouting setting you use - monthly, bi-monthly, yearly etc.

the ai definitely sees at minimum some of these things even if the visible ratings have not shown a change yet.... test it yourself. add a player, then adjust his ratings in comisioner and do not do a rescout. so, it has at least an inkling of what's under the hood, compared to what a human sees.

i can't recall what i changed nor did i try more than 1 thing. so, it may be only a particular rating is sees the truth about or it might be all of them.

long story short, since you described it as an AI on the fence but leaning to accept your trade it would only take a very small change of various parts of the deal convert it from borderline to a solid no. any other factor that changed in the meantime could effect this... even a callup of a hotshot prospect.. now that organizations strenghts/weaknesses changed etc etc... most anything that can effect a trade can change over time, even a few days.

and like mitch said, it could just be how trade ai works, too. more than likely they don't program random fickleness - or maybe somethng like that is called upon for a situation that tells it it is a close trade. the resulting changes of mind could also come from normal evolution that occurs within the game world, which provides that realistic effect of someone changing their mind due to new information.
