New Retrosheet release of original schedule files

Just saw this news posted today over at Retrosheet.org. Putting it up here 'cause I think folks round here might be interested. Here is their update:

11/9/2016: Revised schedules page compares original schedules to dates games were played.

What this means is that those schedule files now contain a comparison of how the season was played versus how it was scheduled. So now you can see when games were postponed, and when they were made up, from 1877 to the present.

As it happens, this was a project I had started myself many years back, but hadn't been able to return to, though it was on my to-do list. Now I won't have to. (Yay! That means I can focus on the minor league research stuff I want to do instead.) These revised Retrosheet schedule files will allow for a detailed season-by-season examination of postponement rates, as well as for the distribution of postponement causes (mostly due to weather, but not always).

That was my reaction. I won't have to do that research myself!

(Now I just need to check their work against the seasons I've done, to see if there are any discrepancies. Hopefully there isn't—I don't feel like composing long and complicated errata e-mails!))
