Alternate Baseball History

ALTERNATE BASEBALL HISTORY

This league will be an attempt to create a “new” history of baseball based on the premise of Free Agency always existing. I will be starting in 1901 and going thru until approx 2025, or until every “real” player from Lahman’s database retiring. I will using the real teams/cities/stadiums and the real expansion of baseball, etc. The only difference will be after the 1901 season, all incoming players will be drafted rather than assigned to their actual teams. I plan on simming a month at a time, and doing a monthly report as well as a pre and post season report. I hope you guys will remain interested and continue reading as this post will probably be very long when all is said and done, and will experience times of letdown in the event I get busy in real life and have to put this on hold for a few days or so. I will update as much as possible and encourage any and all feedback, including any things you guys would like me to add to the reports or players added to the Player Tracker or even a question about how a guy you like but is not a big time player is doing.

I had been doing something similar in OOTP4 and will resurrect it shortly most likely. I took the draft every year approach, but did NOT use free agency--I liked the concept better of just seeing what might have happened if all the teams had access to equal talent. My plan was to turn on the FA system when we got to Curt Flood, but I only got up to 1950 before OOTP5 hit.

Two players of note were Deacon Phillippe, who won 12 Cy Youngs including 8 in a row, and Lefty O'Doul. I set him to an outfielder (he imports as a pitcher). After a slow development in the minors he went on to hit .400. For his career! His high mark for a season was .441.

Good luck with your league--will be fun to see how it plays out! When Cato gets his util for OOTP5 out I'll probably start anew with mine.

Hey man, looking forward to reading this, the first thing that hits me is Wow, they used to know how to do nicknames!

Question: How come the best we can do these days is to morph Alex Rodriguez into A-Rod? ugh!

This is a nice summary of the league... newbie question, where can I find it in the game?

Carl, he's not copying and pasting that from one particular report. He's getting the information from a number of different reports and then consolidating it himself on the message board. At least, that's what I think he's doing.

OH is that what you meant Carl? Yeah Dagrims is right, I typed up a format prior to starting the league, and I sim a month at a time, then using the various reports in the league news section and player tracker section, i type up and/or copy/paste the info, save it on Word, then post it here.

Carlivar, start a historical league, pick 1901 and you can sim your own history. Make sure you download the baseball archive 5.0. There's a link at the main OOTP5 download page.

Nice league NYJuggalo. I'm simming a 1901 NY Giants OOTP5 right now but I'm not putting too much effort into it until we get that promised historical financial system.

Yeah I know about the league creation and everything, it's the report itself I was wondering about.

You know... that is an outstanding report. Simply great. Perhaps you should post it on the Suggestions board. I would love to have an at-a-glance league summary like that.
