Cleaning out the trash

I have had my OOTP 16 since it came out and I have never sent anything to the trash bin (so to speak). How do I "clean" out my game? I have started many leagues and then deleted them so there is a lot to clean up. I dont know computer jargon too well, so speak elementary to me, please.

I'm confused. if you deleted your games, what is there to clean up? When you delete a league, it goes to the trash bin

I figured the game needed to be cleaned up like when you clear out your cookies. I know I sound ignorant (which I am computer ignorant), but I thought files needed to be cleaned out. Does the game itself have a trash bin or does it go to my computer's trash bin?

If you've deleted "many" leagues, as you've stated, then the game may indeed still contain IDs and data relative to those leagues and players. Do a Search for the word Purge (probably in the v16 area as the location changed in v17 I think). Read about the action and see if that might be the intention you're describing.

(Assuming you use Windows)

Check Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 16\saved_games to see if the saves are still there.

Purge is under Game Settings>Database. Then on far right Database Tools. The Purge function is at the bottom of that drop down menu.

Be Certain to read the instructions. The only negative i've seen in the one time i've done it, is i lost all the player IDs on my retired numbers. The names are right, but not the links to players histories. Those are assigned to whomever .... i'm certain there are other things i missed or don't use. It does clean up the old stuff, but it's not a perfect tool. So, just be aware. For me, it was worth it, as i had 6 or 7 test leagues i tinkered with when 17 first came out and a couple of league structure ideas i started but never followed up on. So, i had a lot of junk to deposit.

Anyway, good luck and read the caveat so you know what's going on. AND MAKE A BACKUP of your league before starting the purge. Always make a back-up before making any major changes. (that's the voice of experience talking in the background!!)

i don't think he means within the game... so, pretty sure you're fine. if the league went into your recycle bin, then empty it and it is gone.

if you are uncertain if saved locations ever changed on you (you may have 'seen' a league disappear for no reason but the directories just changed, e.g.), do a search for "ootp".

just open a file explorer (any folder will work). then select computer or hardrive you wish to search, then type in "ootp"

you may find some old versions that you may want to clean out etc... maybe even a few directories you didn't know existed.
