Is there any way to make player ratings change less drastically?

It seems that by the end of a season, a certain player with a star rating of 3.5 will drop to a 1 star. Is there any way of making the game seem more consistent in turns of hitter performance? I understand that hitters decline as they age, and have bad seasons, but I think the player ratings shouldn't change so rapidly throughout a season.

Under Game settings -> players and facegen, you can adjust the talent change randomness. You can use 1-200. the default is 100. Lowering it should result in less rating changes. I usually use something between 50 and 75.

Also, if you have scouts on, you can raise the accuracy as that will effect the ratings you see.

Several points.

Star ratings are relative to other players at the stated position unless you check the box including all players. Did you or the AI change the player's position?

Star ratings are based on AI (Scout) evaluation not ratings unless you chose otherwise. Did you change AI evaluation settings in-game?

Player development and aging is dynamic, very fluid. Injuries, young players developing and old players declining will affect each player relative to others at his position. Inconsistency is the only consistent thing in baseball.

Overall ratings are not the best way to evaluate in the short term. Actual performance (stats) and individual skill ratings are a better method. Your good SS may be 2 stars relative to 6-8 great SS in the league. An average SS may be 4 stars in a league with poor SS on many teams.

What is your TCR talent change randomness setting? Too high a setting will cause more inconsistency. Again this is based on real life data. Players especially pitchers are far more inconsistent than we think.

Clearly you are very knowledgeable. I do understand your point regarding relative ratings and inconsistency. I believe I have had the same thoughts as the original question in having a star (older) player just turn to mush in the blink of an eye. Yes, the stars may drop from 5 to 1 or 2, but the performance is also shocking in it's decline.

the ratings resolution will make a difference too. if a guy is between 3 and 4 stars, that's going to look like a huge swing, when in reality he just went from 3.51 to 3.49 stars, or possibly just some scouting inaccuracy and no change at all. (200 point scale unde the hood, regardless of what you see .: consider rounding)

definitely review those settigns. if it's relative to position, that's just one more reason why it will float from year-to-year even though that particular player may not have changed in any way.
