Why did this happen to this Reliever?
A reliever in my game, 2nd all time in saves, didn't play last season. And that's despite signing 5 (!!) contracts over the course of last season, all over $1000000 dollars. My question is, why on earth did that happen? Is this just bizarre, or is it a common thing?

Apparently, a bug was introduced with the latest patch that causes players to get stuck on DFA, then released 10 days later. See this thread: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ailable-3.html In that thread, it was thought to only occur after trades during the offseason, but it looks like it's happening to your player after signing an FA contract during the season. I guess the bug is worse than currently thought! |

Wow, so instead of striking out a gazillion times, Adam Dunn decided to be a pitcher and strike someone else out for a change.... lol... he did take the mound once while with White Sox IIRC.
Fun fact: Guess which left handed pitcher Adam Dunn TOTALLY OWNED during his career. I mean serious ownage..... Answer: Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers. As that famous man once said.... "You can look it up" lol EDIT: I looked it up for you... 13 at bats, only struck out 3 times against Kershaw (which is low, believe me I watched him everyday during his tenure in Washington as that's how I knew about his ownage of Kershaw).... 8 hits including 2 doubles and 4HR's for a slash line of: .615/.643/1.692/2.335

Oh wait, nm. I bet it has something to do with the DFA since it's always 10 days after some sort of transaction that they get released. I ALWAYS turn off DFA (and options, and rule 5, and 40 man roster, and player personality and morale and whatever else because every single option that is turned on provides an advantage to me because the AI doesn't handle ANY of them as well as a human player). So, since I had the DFA disabled I guess that's why I never noticed it. It probably didn't happen to me. I also haven't seen it in 17.

The bug being discussed in this thread (and others) is regarding players that are aquired (either through trade or free agent signing), including top of the line players, that are released EXACTLY 10 days after being acquired... thus leading me to surmise it's something to do with the DFA list. Either upon acquisition they're being placed on the DFA instead of the regular roster or the AI "thinks" they've been placed on the DFA instead of the regular roster... note how this reliever DIDN'T PLAY despite being signed five times, which is an indication he wasn't placed on the active roster... and thus at the end of the 10 day DFA period they're being released. Or, you know, I've totally misunderstood what's been discussed regarding this particular bug. Which, to be honest, is the most likely answer.

Yep, that's the bug, and no, it's not just marginal players. 1st round picks and 5 star signings.

But yeah, this has been here forever. I'll see if I can find an old post that will show you how long it's been around and give you a good laugh at the same time. I'll search and see if I can find it. (might be gone now I dunno). EDIT: Found it! Same sort of issue, in this case players being called up and down from the minors.

Thanks... I remember that thread, but it's a lot less funny now
The up-and-down from the minors thing I remember, but these are guys that are signed, released, sit for a year not playing, etc., etc. I have seen other threads about it but as I say this is the first time it's been really noticeable (I usually play all games, this is the first time I've simmed out a long history first).Anyway thanks for commiserating. |

the trade i noticed it on kept the crappy throw-in SP and dumped the soon-to-be all-star quality SP. |
