Unhappy Game freezes in XP

I have a Windows XP machine with SP1 and all the fixes that Microsoft can shove out with Windows Update. It has all the latest drivers for the hardware:

NVidia GeForce2 MX
SoundMAX Digital Sound Card
Pentium 4 2.53 GHz
512 megs of RAM

When I hit ctrl-alt-del and lock the system, and then come back to it the game is hung. The window will appear as a blank white screen or look like the background. You can mouse over the spots where the menus should be and hear some sort of sound *similar* to the proper menu sounds, but nothing else happens. No amount of wating and/or tast switching will help. This occures if OOTP5 is the only program running as well. It happens no matter what screen OOTP is in.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

Are your video drivers relatively up to date with the nvidia det drivers? Also make sure you sound card drivers are up to date.

Other than your sound card (I have a sblive) I have a pretty similar system and haven't had any problems under XP.

Probably the action of locking the screen has caused redraw problems similar to what screensavers have been known to cause with OOTP.

Does this sound like what you may be experiencing?

Scott - yes. Sounds about right.

edm - Sorry, what part of "It has all the latest drivers for the hardware" didn't you get?

:-P

Just kidding, I don't mean to be rude.

Yes, video drivers are latest from Windows update - while they may not be the latest, I've discovered they are fairly stable.

As far as the screen not redrawing after a screen saver or a system lock - when will this be fixed? After all, screen savers and locking your machine are pretty common things! Again, I don't mean to be rude, but I figure that sort of issue would have been tested before the product was shipped, and I certainly wouldn't have purchased the product had I known there was an issue like this.

whelp there are the latest Microsoft drivers that MS installs during windows update (which are inferior to the Det drivers), or there are the latest Manufacturer's driver (if you're running a DELL, etc.) and then there are the latest official Nvidia drivers (which are what I asked about) anyway, just trying to help...

Nope, it's a Compaq EVO, brand new. I have the latest drivers that update with Windows Update. I shall try and get the latest NVidia drivers off their site.

I do appreciate your help, I can just rarely pass up the opportunity to be a sarcastic fool!

Might not be fixed. Screen savers, etc. didn't work too well in ootp4 either. You'll have to shut these off when your playing the game I think.
