Cold Streak?

One of my players was on a pretty brutal Cold Streak. Gave him some days off, didn't seem to help. So I sent him down to AAA for a couple weeks, where he responded by hitting .436. I checked in on him in the Lineup screen, saw he was no longer Cold, and promoted him back up to the Majors.

Whereupon I noticed that he was on a Cold Streak again.

So... now I'm confused as to what the Hot/Cold designation is supposed to do. Is it purely a function of league-independent statistics? Hotness in AAA doesn't affect temperature in another level?

For some reason I'm having a hard time describing what I'm confused about, but shouldn't the positive results and relative success found in one league have carry over to the next? Or else... why am I demoting him other than to hopefully replace his production level?

I believe that the hot/cold indicators are merely backward-looking at the results, they don't indicate an actual increase or decrease in the player's innate ability. The hot streak in AAA has no impact on his MLB stats, so his recent history at the MLB level is still indicating that he's ice cold.

Okay, that makes sense.

Solely an indicator of past results, not any sort of indicator of future performance.
