I play out every game in pitch-by-pitch so this is especially devastating. It normally takes me 2-3 months to play out a season.

After taking over in 1960 I felt good about the Cup in '63. But now, It will be followed up by 2 straight 2nd place finishes on an aging veteran team.

Yuck.

Maybe it's time to ease up on the house rules.

Wow, I would be so heart-broke, especially playing out every game.

Just wondering, what house rules do you use?

I don't have "set in stone" rules but I force myself to keep it real.

Basically, I don't claim every single good player that comes down the pipe. To use a term from Civilization I don't do "technology brokering" when it comes to trades.

I make sure the trade is good for both teams. For instance, I don't try to trade for marquee player that the AI controls for several years. I try to stay away from their guys that I know that they would be trying to build their team around.

That kind of stuff. But no hard and fast rules.

The good news is that I finally finished the season on version 16.

I'm looking forward to playing version 17...especially since I've had it since preorder.

They are not failures and neither are you... because without a wild card you are having epic pennant races! Three-way pennant races are awesome, better than just about anything except a four- or five-way pennant race! Sucks that you are second, but... hang in there!

I agree about the depressing "window closing" as your key players age

Looks like your real problem is the competition being awesome, not your team being a failure. You were 7 wins better than your Cup Title Season, AND 7 games better than your PYTH that year, so I don't think you can regret anything beyond how good the Barons happen to be. Or, in this case...the Robber Barons, right?

Yeah, they were sick.

They went 4-2 then 4-1 to take it all.

At least I finally caught up to the community on version 17. I made no trades and only signed one pitcher in the off season. I pretty much stood pat.

The defense must be crazy good in your league, a .715 EFF was 6th best?

Well, the offense was certainly a letdown compared to the crazy good pitching.

I know a thing or two about that as well...

How did you lose it? Last game, extra innings at home against the Barons, winning run thrown out at home and you lose in the 14th?

I know a thing or two about that as well...
