Import file to update ratings for opening day rosters

For those who prefer opening day rosters but with the updated Aug. 30 ratings I made a text file for importing using OOTP's functions.

This file only works with the latest roster (update 17.11.70 to 17.12.75), the default MLB ratings with ALL leagues selected, and a newly created game. If you don't follow all the following steps the wrong players' ratings will be updated and it will be obvious with repeated names, etc. As well, this will reverse any rating changes and transactions from actually playing out the game, so it's best to run this right after creating the game. Though, changing game settings such as AI options, award names, etc will not be affected; the functions below are only designed to change player attributes.

Steps:
- From the opening menu, choose a new standard game and select ALL independent/international leagues
- Under the "MLB" tab, under the "League Settings-> Functions" tab. In the right column, under "Import/export functions", click Import MLB Rosters, and select the file "mlb_openingday_import.txt" (wherever you downloaded it on your file system), and click "import"
- To view the latest ratings, click on "Run OSA & Human Scouts Rescout" under "Other functions"

The ratings should update. At first, updated breakthroughs and rookies will still be in the minors by default, but the AI will adjust rosters accordingly and a lot of players will be put on waivers. Don't forget to promote any upgraded players if they're on your team.

Note that the injuries will also be from opening day. I originally made a file for assigning teams from the Aug 30 update to opening day, but the August injuries would be there which wouldn't make too much sense.

Also note that there is a slight issue I noticed with the latest default rosters, where almost all the pitchers in the draft are listed as relievers. This text file won't fix that.

If there are any future patchers/rosters I'll update the file accordingly as it probably won't work anymore. I tested this on a couple of different starts, hopefully this works out across all computers.

It doesn't show up when I click Import MLB Rosters and I have it main Game Folder.

lukasberger, thank YOU for your (and the rest of the roster team's) hard work! Always impressed with the amount of detail you guys put into them.

mgom, on my computer, the import rosters function defaults to the OOTP Baseball 17/stats folder (with historical_database.odb, Teams.csv files, etc). Are you sure your put the import text file in that directory? Otherwise, you can navigate to yhe import text file using the up/down buttons in the OOTP pop-up, but that is kind of unwieldy.

I know you specifically said it only works with a new standard game, but anyone figured out if there's a way to import the rosters into a save game or a template? I took a ton of time editing all the leagues in the standard game to have financials, playoffs, awards, etc. to my liking, and would rather not have to start all over again.

This "import rosters" won't change any league settings (financials, rules, AI settings). Rather, it changes individual players: their player ratings and some other attributes (e.g. contracts), though it doesn't affect injuries.

So as long as your save game hasn't progressed past opening day, things should be fine. If it is past, the file will reverse any rating changes and transactions from actually playing out the game, which is obviously not want you want.

Again, this only works with the latest updates (incl. build 73) and with all leagues activated; otherwise player IDs don't line up. I did this by exporting rosters from both the opening day and Aug 30 rosters, and using some R code to replace all the player rating fields in the opening day file with the aug 30 file (while keeping the team fields intact).

In any case, be sure you have a backup. Hope this helps.

Update for .75?

Keep in mind .75 fixed the reliever glitch, so the file may need to be recreated.

There shouldn't be any technical reason it won't work in .75 as well.
