2 problems in OOTP5...FA's and injuries
I apologize in advance if these problems have already been reported, but my eyes got tired after reading through hundreds of posts. Also, this post might be a little long with inputs from the game. The bad news is that these two problems are really putting a damper on my game play (I play every game for my team, so it's going to be a long season if these problems continue). The good news is that outside of these problems I'm really enjoying OOTP5, especially the improved double-play AI. It's nice to see that guys with speeds of D & E can't beat out the double play ball anymore. Thanks for another great game.
----- Problem 1: The computer owned teams won't sign free agents. This may not sound too bad, but here's why it is. I downloaded the Lahman database for 2002, then contracted 2 teams to realign the leagues into 2 7-team divisions (I never liked the 3 division wildcard system). As you can imagine, there are now tons of excellent free agents on the market. However, the computer owned teams won't sign any of these players, even though these teams have tons of money available to sign free agents. Below is a sample of some of the free agents: Name Age Pos AVG 2B 3B HR BB K Spe Sta Def. Range V. Guerrero 26 RF 8 6 2 11 4 7 C C D C. Floyd 29 RF 6 8 1 8 5 4 B B C K. Millar 30 LF 6 9 1 5 4 5 E E C J. Vidro 27 2B 7 7 3 4 6 7 D E C Name Age Role ERA AVG HR BB K Dur. SP Dur. RP A. Burnett 25 SP 8 7 8 4 7 B C T. Ohka 26 SP 6 6 7 8 5 C C J. Beckett 21 SP 6 8 6 5 9 D C J. Vazquez 25 SP 6 6 6 8 7 B - Granted, I'm only 6 games into the season, but I know that when I did this in OOTP4, these guys were picked up immediately, for example Guerrero went to the Yankees. Something seems broken. ----- Problem 2: Too many injuries. I have set my league's injury frequency to very low and only 6 days into the season there have been 6 significant injuries (*), plus other minor injuries. I could understand these issues if I had set the injury frequency to normal, high, or very high, but this shouldn't be happening on very low. Monday 4/1/2002 : * CHA: Mark Buehrle was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Strained Tricep Muscle. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take 8 weeks. TEX: Frank Catalanotto was injured while working out. Diagnosis: Inflamed Thigh Muscle. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take one week. Tuesday 4/2/2002 : BAL: Rodrigo Lopez was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Stiff Elbow. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take one week. * MIL: Ben Sheets was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Bone Chips Elbow. He will be OK in about 6 weeks. TEX: Kenny Rogers was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Strained Elbow Ligament. He is out for about 1-2 weeks. Wednesday 4/3/2002 : * CHN: Kerry Wood was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Torn Tricep Muscle. This is a career ending injury for him! Thursday 4/4/2002 : SDN: Jake Peavy was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Tender Shoulder. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take 1-2 weeks. Friday 4/5/2002 : COL: Shawn Chacon was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Blister On Finger. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take one week. * COL: Larry Walker was injured while making a catch. Diagnosis: Broken Wrist. He will be OK in about 9 weeks. * HOU: Billy Wagner was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Ruptured Disc Back. He is definitely out for the season! Saturday 4/6/2002 : * HOU: Roy Oswalt was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. He is out for about 3-4 weeks. HOU: Nelson Cruz was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Tight Elbow. He is day-to-day, but full recovery will take 1-2 weeks. Thanks for your help. Dave |

The FA problem is "fixed". I think this had to do with a previous post about the league default start date being 4/1 instead of 3/31. With the start date as 4/1, the league didn't go through any major processing until 4/8. At that point, free agents were signed.
