End of Regular Season AI for Playoff Bound Teams

Computer controlled teams frequently play all of their top players the entire season, even after they have a playoff spot clinched, resulting in injuries to crucial players before playoffs start.
I would like to see teams who have clinched a playoff spot to rest their stars more and substitute them out of decided games in anticipation of playoffs so they do not lose those players to injury for the playoffs.

Totally agreed!

Recently completed a 1984 season replay - and Houston had locked up the NL West but continued to roll out all their starters... wouldn't you know it... both Mike Scott and Nolan Ryan went down with major (multi-month recovery - thus, season-ending) injuries and missed the playoffs. Ryan was injured on the next-to-last day of the season!

Not that it couldn't happen IRL, but a real-life manager likely WOULD have played the call-ups a bit more down the stretch with a playoff slot locked up. How likely is it a team would lose it's #1 and #2 starters in the final few games of the year when they've already clinched a playoff spot?
