I started up a 2002 league with Rolen's 2002 version. Of course, a truly immense number of home runs and RBI ensued because, well, that's the era we live in.
However, it started to get a little ridiculous. By 2007 I had six new 70-homer seasons, a bevy of 60-homer years and more 50-homer years than I can count. JOSE CRUZ JR., for the love of God, smashed 60 homers one year. I like home runs, and I like Jose, but come on. I have tried reducing home run rates and I am a little unclear as to how this can be done. If I reduce the "home runs" total in the League Setup screne it appears to have absolutely no effect whatsoever on home run production. I have reduced it every year, and going into 2008 that figure has gone from about 5300 to 3400. 54 games into the 2008 season, I have TWELVE players on pace for 60-homer seasons. That's ridiculous. So how can I stop this insanity? Is it set when the league is created? Why is reducing the Home Runs number nt reducing home runs? |

Try going the other way. Adding to the home run number in the set-up screen reduces the number of home runs hit.

You need to follow "stick's" advice and INCREASE the number of homeruns in the league totals of the league setup screen.

The best explaination I've seen is this:
50000 AB 1000 HR = 50000/1000 = 50 HR per 5-rated player 50000 AB 10000 HR = 50000/10000 = 5 HR per 5-rated player 50000 AB 100 HR = 50000/100 = 500 HR per 5-rated player I suspect, though I've not yet tested, the reason behind this is something like this: After a season, hit "Recalculate Totals" The new totals should (maybe not? this is the assumption I need to test) statistcally approximate the same results next year. The results will be slightly different, though. Recalculating after the second season will sway the mean back toward the first. The effect would be a realistic ebb and flow to league totals, which could concievable drift dramatically over time, but would always swing around a central point.

Yep it seems wierd but if you increase the totals it brings down the homers...I also adjusted the hits up...and now I don't have 4 guys every season hanging around .400...You may have to play with the numbers abit to get it the way you would like....but experiment a little ...and you will find your balance...I enjoy my game much more now that Sammy Sosa is not smacking 85 homers in a season...

Thanks, all. Offense levels have returned to more normal levels. Actually, now they're pretty low, around 1989 levels, although J.D. Drew is still tearing the NL apart.
Sadly, I was too late to save some records, so now baseball's all time home run king is Todd Helton with 76, and Carlos Delgado is RBI Champion Of All Time, with 196. And Slammin' Sammy passed the Hammer on the all time homer list. Ah, records gotta fall, right? |

What exactly are your settings set at in the league setup to get realistic totals? I edited mine some, but wanted to see if there are even better numbers to change the "settings" to. This is not to anyone specific. Thanks

I have set my hits to 46,000
and homers to 5700... I like what I have seen so far...but I am going to tinker a bit more...I think the 80's should have had it's own era..and I am close to that..
