AI in game decisions re. pitcher hitting

Does anyone else notice the AI handling this kinda weird?

I just had the AI's 8th hitter bunt a runner over to 2nd, bringing up the pitcher with 1 out in the 7th inning, and he let him hit.

I commonly question the AI's decision to let a pitcher hit for himself late in a close game, often with runners in scoring position and a pitch count near 90

maybe it's just me!

A whole bunch of other questions need to be answered. For example, is the pitcher in question actually a decent hitter? Were there pinch hitters available and, if so, would they have been a defensive liability late in the game with a close score? What was the condition of the bullpen at the time? For that matter, as I am experiencing in my historical league, the strategy in vogue at the time may discourage pinch-hitting for starters, so what is the year of your league? As you can see, we would need more information in order to evaluate your example.

That said, here's a great example of what you are talking about. The year is 1922 and use of relief pitchers, although I have them on staff, is still Very Rarely. So although my SP could not finish out the game, the AI wanted to keep my other SP, Jenkins, in the game because, I guess, that's the way it would have been done at the time. Plus Jenkins is not a bad hitter; not great, but not bad.

As you can see from the game log, it sure worked out well for me!

Current day rosters. It was the starting pitcher, so all PHs were avail. I didn't check his team for injuries or for how much of his pen was tired.
