It assumes you would like to post a different lineup vs. a righthanded pitcher (RHP) or lefty pitcher (LHP). The math of baseball suggests that in general over many games, a righthanded batter hits better against a lefthanded pitcher and vice-versa.

The "+DH" options allow you to set a different lineup for games in which a designated hitter (a guy to hit for the pitcher) is used.

Graphical depth chart is just what it says it is, you can see at an instant who is posted to play at what fielding position. Same for lineups overview, you can see all 4 options (LH, RH, LH+DH, RH +DH) at one time. I use that view to set my lineups.

The 7-day lineup tab is a very dangerous thing. It overrides ALL the other screens and allows you to post your lineups by each day. IE a Monday lineup, a Tuesday lineup, etc. It can be useful at times (if you want to simulate a week at a time, for example). But I have ruined my team accidentally with them activated.

Hope this helps! There seem to be a lot of UK posters with questions... guess baseball is just a TAD more difficult than rounders after all!!

By the way, there's a "new to the game" section of the forum where folks go to answer questions like this. Nothing wrong with where you posted this, but the audience in that forum is eager to answer these sorts of things.

In a pure game, where there is no DH, all 9 players play the field on defense and bat in turn when they are at bat.

In games with a DH, he bats instead of the pitcher for the entire game. Even if the pitcher is changed.

oh ok so if i have no dh all the defense players bat, thought so. so with a dh only he bats? or just the pitcher doesn't but the rest of the team does?

The DH only bats for the pitcher. All other players bat for themselves.

lol it's "pure" if no dh... false logic... you merely prefer it that way.

you'll probably get the most replies in the current year ootp forum - ootp 17 general discussion. that gets the most traffic from what i can tell.

lineups:
i would stick to one or the other in regard to how you set up lineups. the ai can't do certain substitutions like a Catcher and DH who both start and can swap positions. sometimes the 7-day lineup option is the way to go. if you keep it simple, just setting up all 4 line-ups and # of days for a sub, then you don't need the 7day lineup option.

i'm going to assume you have a new mlb league. you'll still need to do the no-dh and dh lineups due to interleague play. when you are in an AL league's home field, you play by their DH rules and vice versa in an NL home park.

some positions will tire sooner than others. Catcher more than all others. you'll want to learn how many consecutive days a position takes before they get fatigued (in-game). catcher varies by Catching Ability, i believe. better catchers can catch more days in a row, but other positions are just a stock # of days, then tired.

Tip: make use of copy and paste for depth chart or lineups... availbe actions drop down box at top-right of screen. dragging it 4 times is for the birds, even if on one page.
