Yes. I've tested many long term sims and noticed teams are definitely retiring numbers. Working better this year compared to last year's version, IMO.

I've noticed it does a good job if the player has been with the team almost exclusively but not with players who spend a few more years with another team. My two AI retirements were of players so spent more than 10 years with the team and 2 years with another to finish their careers. I think if the balance is more skewed to other teams they wont' do it.

Here are some examples of team pages in my fictional test league.

I noticed that being a problem last year, but this year, not so much. At least from my experiences. Here's some examples of players who had their numbers retired. In the one case, the player had played for a different club for multiple years before joining a team who eventually retired his number.

My historical league started in 1969 and is in 1984. Players "retire according to history", and so J.R. Richard was done after 1980. And the AI retired his number, strangely as the only number it has retired so far. His record was 145-66 with a 2.61 ERA.

What's interesting about that is the Astros, who previously set a notoriously low on-field bar for retiring numbers and have seven (not counting Jackie Robinson) retired numbers with only one Hall of Famer who went in as an Astro, have not retired the real J.R. Richard's number. Granted, he won 38 fewer games in real life than in my league, but still, it's interesting.
