V5 League File with Negro/PCL/MLB players.......
You can find it at the UBL Site on the Downloads page.
Its set up with logos and several pix of Negro/PCL stars and is ready for the initial draft. It has 16 teams in two leagues. There are 7 Negro Teams, 6 MLB franchises, and 3 PCL teams. Check it out and see how Cool Papa, Satchel, and all the negro greats would have fared against their MLB counterparts! Link straight to download of file |

Mark, what database did you use for your Negro League players?

No db, brother.
The entire group of Negro/PCL players are all hand created using "The Pacific Coast League: A Statistical History, 1903-1957" "The Complete Book of Baseball's Negro Leagues", and "The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues" as references. Each year, the UBL will get the actual PCL/Negro/MLB rookies in the ammy draft and I'll put out an updated file for each year to the public, but it was a good 3 months of work to create that file. I culled out the 'also-rans' of MLB players from the 1927 league to make room for the 200 or so players that I created Last edited by Cooleyvol; 03-05-2003 at 10:19 PM. |

Imported your league. Great job!!! I "created" mine using an old Tony Larussa game roster of Negro League allstar players.

Thanks, Warren.
I hope all the historical buffs will get it and have fun with it. As I said, updates will come with each season of the UBL. |

Yeah, if you have a Lahman's version of the Negro League and PCL players, I'd love to see it. I have added Negro League players to the Lahman's I have, but I'm always looking for more, and I've thought about adding PCL players as well...all in one super MLB. Or, maybe I'll merge the PCL with MLB early and have 4-8 more teams. Hmmmmm.....
Anyway, if you just have those players' stats in another format, I can work on getting them into the Lahman 4.5 format. |

The books listed above were where I got the stats and I think you'd have to create it in Lahman v5 form as that's what OOTP5 uses now. Easier for me to do it each year by creating the rooks now that I have the original league file done. I'd love to create a Negro db, but it would be a MAJOR undertaking with over 5000 total players listed in the above manuals. |

They have enough stats in those books to put in 5000 players?
I was just going to do the top 200 or so. 5000 would be a lot of work...sounds like fun. Are there any online sources for this data? It'd be possible to grab some of the stats and put them into the correct files with that. |

One of the Negro books listed has a bio for 5000 or so players, no stats.
The other lists stats for each team's roster by year, so you could feasibly put it together, but would be alot of work. Only doing 200 wouldn't be a good negro db, IMO. That would be a negro All Star db and I wanted all the players that were playable in my league. I took the roster of all 16 major NL teams and input the ones that were usable. |

Yeah, the premise of the solo league I am doing now is the Negro Leagues were never needed, since baseball was played intergrated, as it should have been. I also used the assumption that the top players in the NL would make the majors. It's not totally realistic, but it's the Negro League db I had at the time. I'll try to locate those books and enhance the players...and add more teams. I think the whole country should've enjoyed the MLB from the beginning of the century, not in the late 50's, don't you? :-)
