Game Needs Interaction With Players
Okay, this post is partly a suggestion for future versions, but I didn't put it in the suggestions forum because it's mostly because I'm having one of those spontaneous I-need-to-talk-about-something-cool-that-happened-in-the-game-but-if-I-tell-someone-IRL-they-will-think-I'm-crazy-and-the-only-place-I-can-talk-about-it-is-on-the-OOTP-board moments that we have all experienced.
With my team down a run, my starting pitcher had to be pulled due to injury with two outs in the top of the fifth. I went to one of my better middle relievers, and he got out of the fifth. We took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, so I kept him in to pitch the sixth. No problem. We expanded our lead in the bottom of the sixth to four runs. I wanted to keep one of my setup men or closers available for the next day, and so I had him start the seventh. He got through it flawlessly. Then I decided to keep him in for one more batter in the top of the eighth. He got the out before I went to my lefty specialist, who walked his batter. I went to one of my setup guys who gave up a two-run dinger before getting out of the inning. Then I went to my closer in the ninth, and he nailed down the save. We got the win, and I still have a reasonably rested bullpen going into tomorrow. In all, my middle reliever went 2 2/3 perfect innings, threw 36 pitches, and saved me from being in a really bad spot. He's going to get a couple of well-deserved days off, but it's one of those times that I just want to reach through the computer to shake his hand and congratulate him on a job well done. |
