High leverage MR's
In an effort to use my best bullpen pitchers in the most important situations, ditching the traditional closer role, would it be effective to just list everyone as a Middle Reliever, with the 2-3 best (who would be my setup and closer) also labeled as "High leverage?"
Or should I list those 2-3 as early inning Setup roles? Has anyone experimented with this? Not looking to adjust league-wide settings or anything, just my own pitching rotation. Thanks! |

what i do influences the results i see, so this is only for reference:
i still set up the CL 9th or later, SU1 SU2 - both 7th or later and high use MR for any excellent releiver beyond that. then, i use high leverage as a secondary role for all my "Top" relievers i want to use situationally. the will get the most work for sure. i won't use avoid high leverage on my Long Reliever, unless he is wretched and i want high-leverage-MR, et al to work in those situations. I think it works well. my top pitchers always get he most innings. i assume when a tie-breaker is needed the secondary role is considered, and/or which situations the manager uses the bullpen in a traditional or situational way. it's a slider so only 2 settings are all or nothing - if at all. closer: my manager's strategy for "situational/traditional" closer slider is 1 or 2 ticks from the left (situational). you can't see this on the strategy page. you can see it in the editor. i make my coaches as i want them to be, others choose not to do this -- upto you. the coach's preference will make a difference for your closer. more situational = more innings but possibly available for fewer games?... you don't sacrifice many saves at 2 ticks from full "situational," and your closer works a ton.
