Show the current star players of your leagues! Who are the THE guys in your baseball world?
I always love reading about forum posters experiences with OOTP, particularly the star players in your league(s). I thought we could have a fun little thread where we show off the current stars of our leagues, maybe with a little back story or basic history for each player. I know we have the dynasty forum, but I feel we don't share enough about our leagues on this part of the forum. Please share! I'd love to read about your star players.
As for me, my fictional MLB (started in 1901), I'm now in the 2059 off-season, and the following players (in no particular order) are considered the faces of my league. I'll do position players only, and if there's enough activity in this thread I'll also share the pitchers as well. ![]() 32 year old Noah Pennington is a 3x MVP winner with 6 all-star appearances and 4 Silver Sluggers to his credit. He won the Triple Crown in 2058 and has lead the NL in OPS 3 separate times. With 300 home runs and 1,000 RBI's before the age of 32, he's looking like a sure-fire HOFer. Not bad for the 115th overall selection back in 2046. ![]() 28 year old Chad "whatever you do, don't.." Tegethoff is always in the thick of the home run race each and every season. He's lead the majors in RBI's twice, and was just a few days ago named the 2059 NL MVP. He's a 5x All-star with 2 Silver Sluggers and has a World Series ring as a member of the Rockies 2056 Championship club. He was a big part of that post-season run, being named the NLCS MVP. He's living up to the billing of his 1st overall draft position. ![]() 26 year old Danny Salinas has proven to be a valuable member of his club since his introduction to the Majors, posting a 20.5 WAR in 3 and a half seasons. He's already a 3x All-Star to go along with a Silver Slugger, and at 26 years old, he's just now entering his prime. ![]() Whistler BC's Nick Mayer has won back to back World Series with the Yankees, being named both the ALDS and World Series MVP during the 2058 run. He can play multiple positions in the infield and outfield, but his plus arm has him sticking mostly in right field. He's a 4x All-Star and has won 3 Silver Sluggers. He's a 2x runner up in AL MVP voting. The Yankees scooped him up as a high schooler, 92nd overall. ![]() 24 year old switch-hitting John Dembroski (174th overall in 2053) has torched pitchers at every level he's played at, and is looking like a serious threat to perhaps be THE guy, posting a 9.5 WAR in his sophomore season. He flirted with .400 and even .415 for most of this past year, before cooling off in September and finishing at .393. He was an All-Star and a Silver Slugger in 2059 and is definitely one to keep an eye on. He was a 1 man show for the 68-94 Texas Rangers. ![]() A big international amateur signing in 2050, Jesus Soliz is currently the best Cuban player in the Majors and recently finished 2nd in NL MVP voting. Having just turned 26, he's got a long career ahead of him and is already a 2x All-Star and won the Silver Slugger at 3B this past season. ![]() Still just a kid at 22, Oscar Garcia already has 3 seasons in the Majors under his belt. Discovered by Kansas City scouts as a 17 year old out of the Dominican, Garcia won the AL MVP as a 21 year old in only his 2nd MLB season and finished 2nd in voting for 2059. He's a 2x All-Star and 2x Silver Slugger and looks to be the face of the Royals for years to come. ![]() The 7th overall pick in 2050 by the Texas Rangers, Isaiah Slaughter was traded the following year to the A's in a deal for 2x Cy Young award winner Cesar Coronado. The Rangers would like a do-over on that one, as Coronado was a bust in Texas and Slaughter has proven to be a dangerous hitter, twice leading the AL in Slugging percentage. He's a 2x All-Star and has been awarded 4 consecutive Silver Sluggers. He has the chance to opt out of his current deal with the A's after the 2060 season (or stay on for 4 more years at $21,200,000 per) and many around the league are of the belief that he'll test the market. |

My star so far in my fictional history re-take is Charlie Geggus.
In real life he only played one season of major league baseball for the the 1884 Washington Nationals of the Union Association, his stats were: 10-9 record from 23 games, 177.1 innings pitched, a 2.554 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 7.9 K/9. This is what he did in the my league: ![]() He won 2 Pitcher of the Year awards in the "minor" league and 5 in the "major" league along with 7 Championships (1891, 1895, 1896, 1899, 1902, 1903 & 1904). He has the most wins ever and should have more if not for major injury in 1896-1897 and in his final season of 1904. He also played 5 seasons of "minor" league ball, and with those wins he has 409 professional wins in baseball. His "minor" league stats are below:

Wow, 7 rings and 7 pitcher of the year awards for Geggus. 118 WAR. Definitely impressive.

I've been running a modern fictional league called the American Premier League that began in 1996 with 12 teams. Just finished the 2013 season, with 16 teams.
Manuel Casdenito has been a mainstay of the league since its inception. He just turned 40 years old. On September 3, 2013, he became the first player in the APL to reach 3,000 hits. He currently sits at 3,014. The closest player is a 37-year-old active player with 2,566. Casdenito has won the league championship five times with two different teams. ![]() ![]() Casdenito started as a 22-year-old center fielder for the 1996 Colorado Rapids, where he logged the first of three consecutive batting titles, in addition to winning the MVP in '97. The Rapids won the APL title in '97 and '98. The Rapids let him walk and he signed a four year deal with the Chicago Firebirds, where he picked up another batting title and MVP award in 2001. The Firebirds moved him to the infield, where he primarily played second base. The Firebirds also let him walk, and he wound up signing two long term deals for a total of 9 years with the Texas Twisters (subsequently rebranded to the Dallas Vaqueros). He initially split time between second and third base, but eventually made a more permanent transition to right field. The Twisters won three consecutive league championships in 2003-2005. Casdenito racked up three more consecutive batting titles in 2006-2008. He's played the last two years with the Salt Lake City Bees, though he missed almost half the 2013 season due to various injuries. He's now a free agent. If he plays further, he's going to have to play first base (no DH). His batting ratings are still decent (13/11/9/14/12 -- out of 20).

My league star, not on my team unfortunately but it's been fun watching him.
For perspective the career HR leader had 755 in 20 full seasons. 2nd had 639. My league is steroid free so none of those 75 HR seasons. ![]() Wayne is the single season HR record holder and has been extremely healthy. There seems to be a real chance for him to break the career mark which is going to be fun to follow. In the 2047 season he had what would be a great year for most but not for this superstar so there were questions of it possibly being the start of a decline. However in 2048 he showed everyone he was still one of the premier players in the game. |

Keep them coming guys! I've always been fascinated by other posters leagues and the star players in them. Casdenito and Hawk are both definitely HOFers, and of course Geggus as well.

Some of the better players in my league. i tried to avoid listing a clone but The Rock (Bonds) deserves to be mentioned. Jaramillo is lights out.

Patrick Meadowes is one of the best OOTP players I've seen, and is the best batter in the APL. He's got 180 home runs, a batting title, and three MVP awards, and he'll still just be 27 years old next season. And he can swipe a base.
![]() He was drafted #1 overall by the expansion team Salt Lake City Bees in 2005 out of high school as a shortstop. He was instantly the #1 prospect in the league. He made his major league debut in 2007 at age 20. In his first full season in 2008, he won a batting title and finished second in MVP voting. (Amazingly, he didn't win Rookie of the Year either -- that went to his teammate, a starting pitcher named Lou Barton who recorded a 15-7, 3.01 ERA season.) Meadowes has bounced around the infield quite a bit in his time in the majors. His ratings now are probably more suited to second base, though he's played about the same number of career innings at second, third, and short. This year he migrated more to third base -- 111 starts at third to only 46 at shortstop. The Bees have two other fairly decent infield prospects that made appearances as September call-ups in 2013, so I expect Meadowes to spend most of his time at third base for the foreseeable future. When Meadowes became eligible for arbitration after the 2010 season, Salt Lake City locked him up though his age 30 season in 2017 with a 7-year, $102 million contract (quite a bargain) ![]()

These guys....
SCOTT RICH is probably going to end his career as the greatest hitter in the history of the USBL. Only ten seasons into it, and he already has over 500 home runs! ![]() ANDRE WOOD may challenge him if he continues doing what he's been doing, though. He just won the Triple Crown in 1995. ![]() LUIS CAMPOS is winding down now, but is still the all-time USBL leader in HR and RBI. Oddly enough, however, he's never led the league in home runs in any season. ![]() BRAD MOORE just retired. For a time, he was the all-time USBL HR leader. He's sure to be a first-ballot HOFer, despite sticking around for a few seasons too long. ![]() LUTHER MCCARTHY is another guy with over 500 HR, and another surefire future HOFer who shows few signs of slowing down yet at 33. ![]() JOSE GAVILANEZ is the all-time hits leader, and at his current pace, has a good shot at becoming the first USBL player with 3,000 career hits next season. ![]() Good pitching has been a bit harder to find over the 16-season history of the USBL, but there have been a few. KYLER ARCHER is set to pass Ronald O'Neill's all-time wins record (213) next season. He just finished his first season in Pittsburgh after a solid run in San Francisco that saw him win two Best Pitcher awards. ![]() QI-CHEN JIANG just retired after a fine career that saw him make eight All-Star squads and finish third behind O'Neill and Matt Barber in all-time wins. ![]() CESAR FARIAS is by far the greatest reliever in USBL history. His pursuit of 600 saves was derailed as he missed the entire 1995 season with an injury, but he should come back strong next year. He's never missed an All-Star game when healthy. He is still the only reliever to win the Pitcher of the Year award.

Meanwhile in the ABL
George Conner has been a stud ever since college. During his time at Pepperdine University, Conner set league records for most career wins(30), ERA(1.07), Strikeouts per 9(13.21) as well as WAR(16.9). Conner spent just three seasons with the Waves before entering the ABL draft where he was selected with the 4th overall pick. Since entering the league in 2057, Conner has won the pitcher of the year award four times, and is just 7 wins away from 100. I only play 100 games per season so the career wins leader for my league only has 158.
-Doug 'Chow' King: Doug King has enjoyed about the same level of success as George Conner over the course of his career. King has been with the Congo Silverbacks his entire ABL career, and with them he has won 3 ABL titles. As far as personal awards, King has won 3 pitcher of the year awards, and has been selected to six all-star games. Doug King had his best season in 2064, when he became the first pitcher in ABL history to win the pitching triple crown. During his historic season, King went 14-2 with a 1.95 ERA, while striking out 179. King is just 5 wins away from 100, but he is 34 and is coming off a disappointing, injury filled 2067 season where he went just 2-5 with a 3.94 ERA. Between Conner and King, the two have won 7 out of the past 9 pitcher of the year awards. Bahiyy Al Din 'Mr.Magnificent' Majid: Mr.Magnificent has been one of the best hitters in ABL history, compiling a career .335 batting average thus far, while hitting 274 homers(5th all-time), and knocking in 912(4th all-time). Mr.Magnificent has won 3 hitter of the year awards. Although he is now 37, Mr.Magnificent shows no signs of slowing down, as his last MVP award came in 2066 when he was 36 years old, making him one of the oldest players to ever win the award. Johnny Baker: The 33 year old product of Greenville, South Carolina has found quite the career in the African Baseball League, hitting for a career .308 batting average, with 211 Homers, and 628 RBI's. Baker had his most memorable season in 2061 when he was just one point shy of winning just the second triple crown in ABL history with a .354/35/96 stat line. Harun Al Rachid Radi Jr.: Words can't even describe the career that this 41 year old veteran has had in the ABL. Radi Jr clearly isn't the best hitter the ABL has ever seen, as his career batting average is just .271, but the longevity of his career is what is most impressive. Since Radi Jr has spent more than 20 years of his life playing in the ABL, he has been able to set quite a few of the league records, including At-bats(6495), Runs(1042), Hits(1763), Total Bases(3129), Home Runs(315), Walks(1060), and WAR(75.7). Radi Jr spent the first 18 years of his career with the Cape Town Eagles before signing a 3 year deal with the Congo Silverbacks, and this year he is headed back home, as he will play the 2068 season with the Cape Town Eagles at the age of 42. Despite his low career batting average, this guy will be a 1st ballot hall of famer, and remembered by ABL fans for generations. |

Okay I'm actually glad that I did this now...so my game recognizes Doug King as the only pitcher to ever win the pitching triple crown, but if you look at George Conner's stats, he should have won it in 2063. Can someone explain why the game did not give it to him? Is it a bug, or am I just not looking at it correctly?
EDIT: Upon further review, in 2063 there was a two way tie for wins, and somehow a three way tie for strikeouts with 146, so I'm guessing that is why he is not given credit for the triple crown. Last edited by Coxmeatsandwich; 06-26-2016 at 02:13 PM. |

Here's by far my best player. He has 7 MVP's, 6 Gold Gloves, 11 Silver Sluggers, has made $430m so far in his career and still is going strong (on pace for another 7+ WAR season).

In my historical replay, Babe Ruth was the man. Would you expect anything other?
In my fictional league Joey Cordova was a good rival to Ruth.

This guy has been dominating my league for a while now. What I find the most amazing is the fact that he has managed to be injury free up until now at age 35. I wonder how much he will have left in the tank after he returns to the mound.
