Far Too Many Hit Batsmen

In my test leagues to replay the Southern Association, the HBP totals were outrageously high... should have been 300 per year... but I got 1200 per season.

The league totals only had 300 listed.

Gave up creating the replay of the league because of this.

Anyone know what caused it?

I checked all of the pitchers to see what their HBP ratings were... they ranged from 1 to 11 per 550 batters.

I lowered them to 1 to 3 on all pitchers and still got the same 1200 for the league.

League Fielding Averages are not year specific... my league FA was .982 for the 1947 season... should have been around .970 FA.

I did fix the FAs by doubling the Position Modifiers.
2.000 = .965 FA
1.900 = .968 FA

I just ran the 1947 Southern League without horsing around with any settings and got a .968 FA and 272 HBP.

For the record.

I don't know who is keeping the records but there it is. Straight out of the box. No Mr. Ed'ing.

You're completely right... I must have made way, way too many edits in trying to create the real rosters with real ratings.

From now on, I will just play with default settings, play fictionals and "out of the box".

Your help and quick replies are always appreciate... you were very helpful in my futile attempt to "recreate and replay" the old Southern Association.

Quick question... were the rosters accurate in 1947?

If so, how did you set up the game? Was it a custom game? Or historical game?

For me to recreate it, I would need help in the setup.

Give me basic step-by-step instructions that you used and I will try to do it myself... is the Wizard setup simple to follow?... I always get to a point where I'm not sure of what to do.

It would be interesting to see the rosters at the beginning of the season... if they are fairly accurate, I may still try to replay the Southern Association.

I'm going to try to set up a historical league in 1947 and the Southern Association will be a part of it... I will get back to you when I get well-verses in the game creation process, so I can ask intelligent questions.

It was a historical game.

Rosters can change
1) as OOTP tries to put players at the appropriate level based on their skills.
2) players already elsewhere stay there as there is no minor league transaction file
3) team rosters are constantly in flux but you can freeze them once you have them as you like as has been covered elsewhere in your posts.

If I was yourself I'd

1) start a historical game in 1947
2) move the players you want from wherever they are onto the team you wish (many may already be there)
3) freeze the rosters
4) make a backup
5) play the game without changing nothing at all nor anything else

For subsequent seasons start at #2

Thanks, Spritze.

I'll give it a try.

I have a template of the custom league I created for the Southern Association.

I will use the "league totals" to try and get the HBP totals more in line with the real totals.

As I told you in the PM, this might solve my problem and enable me to replay my beloved Southern Association and put it all in a day-to-day dynasty report, including all the real history, culture, music and movies of the times.

Thanks again for your splendid explanation of how the world of OOTPB works.

Much appreciate your help.

Everything works... the league stats are right on the money... and I can do a dynasty replay of the Southern Association 1947-1959.

All I had to do was lower the "hit by pitch" settings in "league totals" from 1.000 to .250... Hit by Pitches dropped from 1250 to 350.

Raising the "Position Modifiers" from 1.000 to 1.900 dropped my league fielding average from a high .982 down to a realistic .967 FA.

Thanks to you, Bigshot, BigRed75 and Matt Arnold, I will be able to play my Southern Association.

All of you are much appreciated.

I tried to set up the league using the historical mode, but the process was too complex for a meager intellect like me... just too many variables to choose from... I got lost doing it.

Thank goodness, my custom league works.
