All Star Roster Issue

I am currently playing a 1983 historical sim with the Detroit Tigers and I noticed the following issue with the All Star game rosters. Steve Carlton (who is with the Oakland A's in my sim) was picked for the AL roster even though he has not pitched in 1983 due to an injury that has kept him out for the season. He did finish second in the fan voting so it would make sense for him to be included and I guess it is not impossible for a fan vote - in real life I should say - to yield this kind of result. However, this seems rather unusual given the fact that he has not pitched an inning in the 1983 season. Does this count as a bug?

I dont think it is a bug i have had players that were very popular get voted to the ASG even though they were injured all year.

I believe the top-3 in votes for SP and RP will make the All-Star game. As he is hurt, he will be replaced by someone else on the roster for the actual game, but a really popular player who had an insane season last year I'm fine with being in the top few votes.

Jesus Burgos was voted to the 1968 ASG despite being injured all season.

When I first saw an example of an injured player with no stats for the year they were selected to the All-Star game, I guess I could not imagine a real-world scenario where this ever happened. Now that I think of it, I guess it is not that big of a deal and occurs rarely enough that it is hardly noticeable.
P.S. Burgos was a beast.

Matt, you're explanation made complete sense - I read it after my previous post just a moment ago- and I agree that any player with a monster season the year prior (such as Carlton) would receive some consideration among fans even if they are injured. It is, after all, the fan vote that is responsible for them being selected.
As I mentioned a moment ago, it seemed to be a bigger deal at the time that I discovered it. Now, not so much, especially after reading your post.
Thanks for the help and the explanation.

I put it similar to electing a player who's had a really bad season getting elected.

If you don't want that, you can always turn down the influence of popularity in the All-Star voting. Certainly if the votes are more based on their play, then someone who hasn't played will have a tough time making it.

Which screen has the option to adjust the ' popularity influence' for allstar voting?

In the league settings page (always forget which sub-tab), next to all the other all-star options. I believe it's only available in pre-season, though.
