Buy OOTP17 on Steam or directly?

I'm new to OOTP17 and I'm thinking of buying it.

Does it matter if I buy it on Steam or directly from the company.

I presume that essentially they're both the same game but are the mods and other options the same?

Also is MLB16 exactly the same game as OOTP17 or is it a 'light' version?

If you buy it here the developer gets a little extra money.

If you buy it on Steam the developer will get less money but you will have to click this button after you have downloaded it if you want to add it to your Steam library:

Everything is exactly the same except that patches come 1 day later on Steam.

MLB 16 is to Risk as OOTP is to Axis & Allies.

One is for a dummy the other is for a Jeanyus with a capital J.

EDIT: Edited spelling of Jeanyus.

I prefer buying it here, directly, so I don't have to wait an extra day or two for new patches.

I've done both. I like Steam in general because if I change computers it's easy to reinstall, but this year buying it direct has meant fewer issues, earlier patches, etc. If it doesn't matter to you, buy direct imo.
