What does fishes in the off season mean for development?

I've always wondered what that and other nebulous phrases like writes short stories in his spare time and has a collection of plants, etc. means as far as development goes. these are in the players' personality section. I mostly sim games, so I don't spend enough time measuring things like this. Anyone have any insights? Thanks.

I'd pay no attention to those phrases. Look at things like work ethic and intelligence in the BNN player page. Those will tell you much more about how a player will develop.

I've noticed that usually if the personality description is something generic like that, his attributes will be pretty neutral. No "very high" or "very low" in any categories. But to be safe it's always best to check the attributes directly.

Yeah, I think you may be right.

Clearly, all that casting and pulling builds arm strength.

I always figured it meant he was a bit slow-minded

I think it means he has a fairly low work ethic.

Then it would be the opposite of almost every fisherman I know.

Naw, he should be working on his batting, not his baiting during the offseason.

Not at all. A low work ethic on the BNN page means low work ethic. A player can spend time fishing and working out in the offseason.

Those phrases are almost always meaningless, except the times they indicate a possible personality trait, like leaving the clubhouse quickly after games or liking to play cards with his teammates.

Maybe it means he likes to relax and have a cold one.

I don't pay attention to those too much, but I do like that they've gotten more...interesting in v17. Like "He is a hard worker and a babe magnet."

But if he works really hard at it he can become a master....

Never mind, too easy.

Poor plate discipline. Haven't you heard an announcer say, when a player swings and misses at a bad pitch, "He went fishing on that slider" or whatever?

Seriously, I'm pretty sure that's a generic phrase when there's nothing meaningful to say, no different from stuff I've seen like "Average Joe" or "Just one of the guys."

I've always seen it as neutral (to very slightly) positive too. If his fishing in the offseason is the thing this guy is described for, there are no more interesting things to say about him, good or bad, but I see fishing as a kind of level-headed activity, so a slight positive.

Certainly better than "snorts cocaine in the offseason."
