Financial Question
So I have a fictional game that started in 1980 and am currently in 2017 season. I started with financial settings from 1980 and thought I would enjoy using those settings. However, I have found I keep wanting to go back to current day financials. At this point, would it be okay to go to modern day financials? If so, I assume I should wait until off-season to do that?

Would this effect the game in a negative way?

You can change the financial settings, but that will mess up with the current players contracts, because there is a huge difference.
What I do is, every year, when the World Series ends, I go to the financial tab under "league settings" and multiply every cell by x1.03 to x1.05. Sometimes x1.02... others I leave it the same. It has to be done gradually. |

Changing the financial settings will have no affect on current contracts, it will only affect things going forward. You should be fine if you're changing from 1980 to 2016 financials. It will just take a while before you'll see the overall affect on player and other contracts. As they come up for renewal the 2016 settings will be used.

Would it be best to do the switch over the course of a few seasons? Jump maybe 3 or 4 years each off season until you're caught up to the present? That way you won't have massive contact discrepancies

on the main league settings page, look for "assign Financials..." or some such string of words... there are at least 2 relevant options... read carefully as to which is the one you want to use.
this may have some side-effects... i think one will re-do market sizes? just check out the manual if the tittle of the function isn't clear to you. always make a backup first when doing this stuff, too. otherwise, some teams will greatly benefit from any long-term contract of a potentially extremely large contract... 10-20 years all would be 'normal' to your settings. it would probably cause a noticeable bump in contract sizes for a short period of time, while teams had extra budget room from the ultra cheap left-over contracts. it wouldn't be game-breaking, imo. Good advice. I am 8 years into my season and I had just assumed that financials would adjust themselves.

You can click the "assign fictional contracts to personnel, players, and fictional financials to teams" in that order, all finances (including current contracts) will be updated to reflect your changes.
If you assign fictional financials to teams, be sure and check the team financials page after. You may not agree with market sizes, fan interest/loyalty that is assigned by the game. Adjust accordingly. Last edited by Bluenoser; 06-06-2016 at 05:04 AM. |
