Question 24inch or 27inch - Optimal Monitor Size and Resolution for OOTP Baseball

I've been playing OOTP on my 18' screen sized Laptop. I love it, but for me it's hard to read the text at times. But regardless of that, I'm investing in an obnoxiously powerful Desktop PC which will include Dual Geforce GTX 1080 Video Cards in SLI. (***NOT to be confused with 1080p resolution***) I am not here to debate why I am spending so much on a PC, however, it is mainly because I race online and simply because I want to run such power because I can.

Moving on, I've now decided to run OOTP(17) on my desktop instead of my laptop. I have been debating on which size gaming monitor to get for my new custom built desktop. Now, I game more than just OOTP, but OOTP is more like a hobby of mine so I spend more time with OOTP Baseball and Front Office Football than I do with the other games. Having said that, I need a monitor that will be able to satisfy my needs for both types of games/simulations that I play. Not that it matters, but the other games I play are first-person war games such as Arma 3 and a few other war strategy games as well as iRacing online.

The two monitors I am debating on are (but am leaning more towards the 27') -

**Acer Predator 24 Inch 1080p 144mhz w/G-Sync
OR
**Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 27 Inch Widescreen 2560x1440p 144mhz w/G-Sync

My question(s) are -

1) - Will OOTP be able to run on these larger screens properly? I mean, will OOTP17 (and/or future installments) be able to run the entire full screen of either 24' or 27' monitors or will the game be 'windowed' and unable to run the full screen, making it look tacky?

2) - Will the text be too small to read at these higher resolutions despite the increased monitor display size? I do wear contacts/glasses as my eye sight isn't the greatest, but remember, I will be sitting directly in front of the monitor - no more than 3 ft away.

Also, if anyone is running OOTP on a 27' 1440p or a 24' 1080p monitor, what are your opinions about them and what are your experiences running either of them with OOTP?

Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for any input shared.

I use a 32" TV connected to my desktop and have OOTP running at 1980*1020 full screen, with default size text and have no problem reading it at all from a 3-4ft distance so I would imagine you'll be fine with those monitors, particularly the 27".

Text size shouldn't be a problem sitting at a desk for either of those monitors.

refresh rate (144mhz) really doesn't matter for ootp, so getting a 144mhz screen won't have any effect. imo the higher refresh rates are e-peens except in very specific situations... very little media (movies, tv etc) will take advantage of it. 3d games can use it, but 144fps is a bit overkill and likely to burn out your gpu in no time. save money and get a larger / lower refresh rate with equal or better resolution - imo. (rare health concerns may prefer a higher refresh rate, too)

relative to movies and TV the boosted refresh rate you see in LCDs isn't to be better than before... it's due to the crappy limitations of an LCD's response time. that tech was made for wristwatches, not TVs... lcd is junk for video without additional effort and processing - which modern lcd monitors do have, don't get me wrong... realtive to computers and games, this is something that can cause delay between what you do and what you see on teh screen - i.e you move the mose and 1/10th of second later it moves on the screen. the less post-processing the better of what is sent to the screen. * turn off all those silly "video enhancer" featurs like mpeg noise reduction and such. those have very specific uses and everyday use is not one of them.

another option:
get a wireless keyboard and mouse. put pc behind your main tv out of sight. connect it to your large tv and sit back on your couch. = save money on new screen.

The 1080p can run at a lower reso, so you won't be hamstrung if the text is too small - between the 2 monitors you listed...
---------------

old response:

my pc is connected to a 59" plasma. so, you're okay. it's more about resolution relative to screen size. as long as you can read it easily, you're good to go.

larger reso - smaller text... some don't get that. think of dots per square inch and how they change... if the text is Xdpi, then a larger reso means they take up less space on the screen. * think similar to zooming out on google maps.

1080p is the 1080p regardless of screen size... also, regardless of what your computer's output reso is, the display you have always shows in native resolution... the screen merely scales the signal to fit the panel.

e.g. even though watch a 480 non interlaced video, it is displayed as 1080p on my panel... it's still 480 quality, of course. possibly even worse quality due to upscaling. otherwise you'd have 4 black bars sorrounding the video. (assuming the bars were not encoded with the video to begin wih (waste of kbps), at which point it wouldn't technically be a 480 non-interlaced video)

so, best quality will be sending the native resolution to the display... if it's 1080p, use that. if you need larger text, don't fret about changing the resolution. tthis game isn't about graphics anyway and won't notice much if at all different.

Can I ask one of you guys to start a thread on obnoxiously powerful computers. I don't know enough to make a good buying decision and I have money burning a hole in my pocket. Currently using a Qosmio X500 gaming laptop as a desktop as it reaches the end of it's life (cracked bezel around the screen). I've been happy with it but it's time.

Don't think there is much difference in windowed vs full screen.. except in windowed mode you can minimize the game to do other things.

I have a 24" monitor and the game is great at 1920x1200. I bumped up the font to increased font size.

I run this game on my Desktop, laptop and now on my Samsung Tabpro S (2160 × 1440) and I wouldn't recommend a better device than that Windows tablet... it was made of OOTP
