No Love for Curacao?
Some of the top players/prospects in the MLB are from lonely ol' Curacao. Curacao was part of the Netherlands Antilles until 2010--but the Dutch Antilles no longer exists.
The fun thing in OOTP, is that Curacao as a nation exists--but sports ZERO players. All the players from Curacao are listed as being from "Netherlands Antilles"/being "Dutch Antillean". The Netherlands Antilles ceased existence in 2010. And while for the ease of programming, etc. it may be best to keep players from Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba as being "Dutch Antillean", it doesn't seem to make much sense to place all the Curacaoan players in the wrong country. These players include standout players & prospects such as Johnathan Schoop, Kenley Jansen, Jurickson Profar, and Andrelton Simmons who would probably be disappointed to find out they have the wrong country listed on their OOTP profiles. I originally posted this in the bug forum as seen below--but I think this might be something more up for general discussion? What happens as countries change/how significant is it to get current players' nationalities correct? Original post here For history buffs interested in more info: Info here |

I'd much rather see players from those islands given the origin that they are now rather than have them listed as being variously from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Klein Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius. Too much detail. Note: I have been to all of those islands (well, to both haves of Saint Martin, Sint Maarten is half an island) and like them all.

It's better for player morale if there aren't too many players from really obscure locations. If my scout finds a great player from Grenada then the player will be very unhappy because he has no countrymen on the club...unless I find a 2nd prospect from Grenada I'm always mindful of that when I get a great prospect from an unusual place.

Hey wolf and gr, while I agree with that concept--the vast majority of "Dutch Antilles" players in the game are actually from Curacao.
And I believe Aruban players are actually properly represented in the game. So it really wouldn't affect much. Would just transpose most of the Dutch Antilles players into their proper country (and I mean hey, you want more Curacaoans to satisfy an upset player, just get Profar, Jansen, Schoop, and Simmons). But again, it's not a must have. Just find it interesting/something minor worth thinking about updating going forward. |

Let's just give it to Israel and let them relocate there. Add in a strip about 10 miles wide from the pacific to the gulf and it solves our two biggest problems - it gets us out of the Middle East, and nobody secures a border like the Israelis
I kid |

Does Curacao actually sort correctly now? I know Zimbabwe sometimes doesn't.

I'll take a deeper dive into this if people think it's worthwhile when I have access to my laptop on Sunday. Lukas, if it's an easy fix and you think it's worth doing, I'd say go for it. Thanks in advance! One of the reasons I love this game above and beyond most others is its attention to detail and its factual accuracy. |
