Pitchers as pinch-runners/hitters

I pinch-hit for the pitcher (in the 9th spot) then tried to pinch-run for the pinch-hitter, with the previous day's starting pitcher - name of Walker (With me so far?)

The game did not put Walker on base, rather, only recognizing him as going into the game the next inning as a reliever.

When the next half-inning started, I could not replace Walker with a relief pitcher -- because the game wanted him to face a batter first.

However, he could not even do that, cuz the lineup screen kept telling me the lineup was incomplete, not letting back to the game screen (although all defensive positions were filled.)

Sorry if this was too hard to follow -- my point is -- is there a way to use pitchers as pinch runners or pinch hitters without the game trying to force them onto the mound?

For that matter, is it possible to use pitchers as two-way players? (A la that guy on the Brewers this year?)

edit- sorry meant to put this in bug forum.
And did anyone else blow off all errands all weekend ("just one more half a season, then I will go to the store...OK one more season...")

I am not sure, but you may have to change their position.

I do this in the minors, so far I've had two pitchers learn LF, but their batting talents never change.
