Holy Disabled List
For the record, that is my entire starting outfield, my backup outfielder, my starting third baseman, and the reigning MVP and my starting second baseman. It's May 7th.

You haven't really played OOTP until all five of your Opening Day starters are all on the 60-day DL at the same time.

Lol. Sounds like the first game I ever played in OOTP 14.

You still got a full starting rotation and bullpen? Get back to us in a week or two when things get really bad.

Ya almost my entire starting lineup was on the DL for the first season I played. When they were all healthy for second season we went from last place in the division almost worst team in baseball to first in the division and 3rd best record overall.

Actually I looked at the list and said, that's not too bad...
But yeah, I get it's different when it's all of your key players, but it's all part of the fun, that's when I rub my hands together and think "things just got interesting... let's go to work..." Of course I'm a little strange to begin with. You can look at it as a chance to either make a name for yourself as a GM or, you know, find a new job in the offseason.... |

I turn injuries down to low. Yeah the challenge of Classic is fun sometimes, but... it just seems way too unrealistic to me.

Yes, my pitching staff is still together, which is the only reason I'm winning. Unfortunately, my depth is centered around pitching. My outfield is completely decimated, and my middle infielders aren't great either.
My 23 year old star shortstop just joined the disabled list run.

There are still plenty of injuries to contend with, but I've yet to endure anything like 80% of my rotation, my top three relievers AND two key position players at the same time. Or over half you're starting lineup, like you have. Try the setting I use. |

as for me that's close to real life... worst thing i got recently: traded top pitcher for 2 mlb my best players + 3 my top prospects. and that pitcher i traded got injury for 11 month in his 1st start in my team. disaster...
playing historical game, started from 1970. |

You are lucky! Mine looks way worse. I think they need to tune this more as this isn't realistic at all. When I have my injury setting to normal I expect normal. I don't expect half my team on the DL!

If this is the injuries he is dealing with after basically five weeks, just imagine what a full season could generate for him.
Yes, injuries are somewhat random (unless his team is loaded full of injury prone players), and of course some teams in some seasons will have a larger amount of injuries to deal with. But there is a significant difference between random bad luck, and a repeat of the 2014 Texas Rangers, and his team is looking like it's going to shatter that level of injuries. I can't even try to convince myself this amount of injuries (length and severity) is anything close to normal, random bad luck. Not in a five week time frame. I found a column about the Rangers of 2014, and as of the 31st of August, 2014, that team had 14 players on the DL (9 on the 60 day DL) and had used 59 different players in a game that season (with one month to go). That 59 players used tied a record seen three other times. With a month (and roster expansion) to go in the season. I ended up winning the championship, behind the breakout performances of a 23 year old unknown second baseman that I had signed 6 years ago as an international amateur free agent for $250k and 27 year old starting pitcher that before had never been more that a 3-4 starter.
Along the way I lost my closer and starting shortstop for the full season as well, with short term injuries to several other players. For the most part, however, we got healthy in time for the playoffs, where we went on a run, managing to beat the Astros 4-2 in the World Series. Oh, and the kicker? My trainer retired after the season. |
