How does playing into the future work

I'm fairly new to the game and have spent all my time playing historical.
Why question is, what happens if you start a league beginning in 2016 with all the players and minor leaguers on their correct teams.
As you play into the future and players begin to retire are the roster spots filled with fictional players until all the real players are gone and then league becomes fictional from that point forward?

This is cool. Just noticed in your almanac that the Padres won three straight championships starting in 2040. If only I had so much faith!!!!

PV i am in 2025 and still have many real players in the league and my league was started in 1999 with real minors from 2013. Lindor, Ozuna, Keeler, Kuechel & Kershaw are among the leagues best. Kershaw is now in the pen and back with LA but he should easily make it into the HOF.
i started this league in 1999.

Is this just a straight MLB league or is it your fictional world?

That question for me? It's my EBL vs MLB league. MLB started on OOTP 13, 1999.

I wonder what the most number of years is that someone has sim into the future in a league? Do wacky things happen if you sim long enough?

Nothing wacky should happen. I've simmed into the 2300's in previous versions with no problems.

How long did it take you to sim that far into the future? I'm planning to try a few long-term simulations and I'm looking for options that will cut down on the run times.

I don't remember, frankly. It's been several years since I've gone that far and OOTP has gotten much faster in that time anyway. My two main suggestions for making it go faster would be to use a less complex league (fewer teams, less trading, etc. Any time the AI has to make fewer decisions, the game will be faster.) and to set your anti-virus program and your OS's search indexing feature to ignore the Out Of The Park Developments folder, where all of the games files are stored. OOTP creates and modifies files constantly and anything that is constantly checking new or changed files will really slow the game down.

Set the Wayback Machine, Sherman!

I am curious about going back in time as well. Allegedly baseball started forming in the 1840's. Would the game be better served with modded files in the database folder that cover those past and future dates? Even if the first and/or last line of data were merely extended/duplicated/adjusted to cover the missing data?
Just a thought.
