Do you play out or sim spring training?

I was curious about what everyone here does about spring training. I've tried to play out the games in the past, but I get bored real quick. Is there a benefit to playing out spring training?

I usually quickplay the games, look at potential injuries and at the waiver wire, and move along another day...

Then, I select one or two of the offdays to sent down some of the guys I'm sure won't make the team and reevaluate things on April 1st, when Spring is over and the newest development report + all spring stats are in.

I sim spring training (one day at a time to check waivers and free agents) and play out all regular season and post-season games. I see no benefit to playing spring training games. I just want to get through it with no serious injuries.

No real benefit, but I usually play them out if I have position battles happening, but if my starters are pretty locked up, I will play out maybe 2 or 3 games, then sim the next 4 or 5 so I can figure out the backups/relievers.

I probably will keep simming past it until we get a real spring training with cactus/grape fruit along with actual training that goes on.

I only use it to see stats and make final roster decisions at a positions and roster spots that aren't locked.

I have spring training turned off. I might, however, schedule exhibition games during the regular season.

I play all my games out including spring. Kinda gives me a feel for how some of my young up and coming talent is doing. Although any real benefit is not really known I guess other than what I can imagine. But in the end I guess it is all that way for the most part

I do wish the spring was broken out into a cactus and grapefruit type league as real life but existing still works for me

I sim spring training one day at a time. I check stats, health, trades, waivers, demote players, etc. each day as needed to keep in touch with my team and league. I make some of my best trades in spring training after discovering holes in my lineup and being able to trade easily at that time of the year, especially if you are willing to create "equal" trades to make the AI happy.

In the current version of OOTP, I really don't find spring training useful under the current setup and only take 40-45 place players on the roster. When I first started with OOTP16, I placed 60 players on the roster, but do not do so anymore. I don't see the need for 30+ pitchers when 20 will barely get a chance to pitch enough innings to eliminate rust due to the reduced number of games (number of weeks and no split-squad games). Just see the threads about closers not getting any innings on AI teams. I changed my closer to a reliever in my last spring training along with all other pitchers. He ended up pitching in 5 games for 6 innings total and that was with me attempting to force more innings by moving guys to AAA and only leaving 12 pitchers on the rosters. The AI only wanted to use other guys. Really hurt my team in April because my closer was still rusty for about three more weeks.

I would love to see Cactus and Grapefruit leagues added or even better, be able to implement our own versions of spring training leagues and schedules. In my league, I've eliminated interleague play and the DH in the AL, but I would like to see NL vs AL in spring training like it is now in RL.

I hope to see an improved spring training in a future version.

Tim

I sim one, sometimes two or three games at a time and adjust lineup and subs with liberal use of the "bench player" option. I like to get multi-position players some time at all reasonable defensive positions. The pitching staff is similarly adjusted to ensure some work for all RP specifically.

In my gm/mgr game I sim spring training one game at a time and check out the box score. I do not place much faith in the results . I play out all 162 no simming !

Speaking of simming, I would like to see AI give more PT to non starters and other RP. It doesn't seem like the logic for player usage was upgraded when the ability to have more than 40 men on the roster was implemented. As a user I can fix this but that does nothing for the AI.

I usually weekly sim spring training, and go between one pitch simming or individual simming + reading the boxscore for regular season.

Pitch by pitch post season of course, but since my latest save is a stats only where I'm an expansion team, I don't think that's gonna happen for awhile.

I sim them one week at a time, cutting a certain amount of players each time. Spring is helpful for seeing if a AAA guy is ready for the bigs or not imo
