What strategies/tips for drafting do you like to use? Do you always follow your scouting director? Totally disregard him?
A few of mine:
- Look for pitchers with high batting potential, and convert them to position players
- Don't be afraid to draft a 'B+' player with your first pick, if they will accept less than slot money. You can then use the savings to make a tough sign for your next pick
- Know your scout's limitations/biases (I play as the Rockies, and Bill Schmidt, the scout, hates amateur pitchers.)
- Identify a few sleeper picks that your scout loves but OSA hates.
One thing I've found hard: Guessing what round a player is likely to be drafted. Since the game doesn't have a 'mock draft', it can be hard to know: "This guy should still be available in the 5th round." Any tips for this one?
