Crash Crash Crash
I'm really frustrated that OOTP 17 keeps crashing during my long term sims. I think I'm even more frustrated that "fixed crash xyz" wasn't listed in the patch notes.
Ok, done venting. I know they will get fixed at some point as they always do. Keep up the good work Markus and Co.

It sounds crazy...but when I started to "Run as administrator"...the crashes stopped. I don't know what it did, but that helped it. <shrugs>

they mentioned you should restart the application after 50 years or so... not sure if that was fixed in saturday's patch. it mentioned there was a memory leak on "longer" simulations.
the run as admin could help if the OS is thinking somethign fishy is going on with some writes. maybe uac settings affect this? no worries using run with admin rights with reputable software. turn that stupid UAC crap off if you don't do wierd stuff with your pc. Just a suggestion. I truly have no clue why that stopped it from crashing.

I'm 99% sure its the memory leak. It has all the symptoms including apparent randomness, happens over a period of time, and usually after I've done a large amount of simming (large number of games).

Sim 20 year, shut it down, sim again. That's the only solution right now I am afraid.

So, just started up a new league with the latest patch -- and trying to sim through seasons, I am getting constant crashes as well.
Is this just the state of the game at this point? I started a fictional league based on MLB, in 1970. First few seasons went OK, no problem. But toward 1977, 1978 on, the game is constantly crashing as I try to sim through seasons (I was hoping to sim for about 20 seasons and then start playing in 1990). Right now I've sort of given up -- in 1979 mid-season, the game is crashing constantly whether I try to sim a week, a day at at time, what have you. Pretty much an unplayable situation. Is the consensus, just sit tight and wait for later patches -- ? |

Try disabling threading. Seemed to fix my crashes.

THANK YOU for suggesting that. Turned off multi-threading in Options and am now able to sim without constant crashes.
So definitely sounds like there is an issue with OOTP17's new multithreading feature. Hopefully this will get addressed in an upcoming patch? (FWIW, I'm not using any exotic equipment -- an i7 3770k processor -- never had issues with multi-threading in other applications. Hope this will get fixed.) |
