Way too many trades

I simmed one day and seven AI trades went down. What can I do about it?

Would you mind telling me where I can find that setting? And a realistic level to set it at?

simming 1 day is what would be called an insignificant sample size. Hardly enough to claim there are "Way too many trades". Way too little information to evaluate this. Without knowing what setup your actually playing with it would be impossible to know how many trades to expect

I don't think 7 trades in one day is normal, regardless of the sample size. Especially given the time of year (first month of the season), they shouldn't be happening with such frequency. I'm playing with whatever the default settings are. I didn't touch anything.

Game Settings > League Settings > Rules Tab at the bottom of the left hand side of the page. The setting is called "AI Trade Frequency". Set it to Low, or Very Low.

the manual shows where all these settings are, and his point is that if you experienced an outlier, you will think the problem is more drastic than it actually is.

the other half of that is whether you have a baseline for comparison? what you or i remember from recent years doesn't help. you'll need to do a bit of research.

for this video game, i'd keep it simple. look at trades per year. if it fluctuates within what you see occuring in real life, it's good to go.

not a criticism, but I am several weeks into the 2016 MLB season and it does SEEM like there is a lot of movement on the trade front. My question is does anyone here know (I don't) what is the most number of trades made in one day in real major league history?? I would be very surprised if it was anywhere close to 7.

If you play the default MLB setting, the first day seems like the Winter Meetings are still going on. I think there were five deals done in mine, too.

If this is the way it goes on Day 1 of the default set up, maybe the start date should be mid December instead of March.

In a couple of tests I ran of the default MLB set I found that trades were high in the first year, but normalized in the second year and beyond. I feel like the AI teams spend the first year adjusting rosters to their liking.

Exactly. You have the AI taking over teams they did not put together, there is naturally going to be movement at the beginning. It is not representative of the typical trade frequency.

If you had brand new GM's take over every real MLB team tomorrow you would see a flurry of trades pretty quickly then as well.

This comes up every year, the solution is to turn off trades for the first few months of a new league.

What happens is the rosters are set up based upon real life, then the AI takes control of them. The AI GMs have their own ideas about what their rosters should be and make an effort to change them. This ends up with a lot of roster moves when you start.

It calms down after the initial AI gets about what they want for a roster, but if you turn off trading until near the first year's trading deadline, the AI will have a better idea of what to do.

I am 2 months into the season and there have been no trades except one on opening day. I have yet to be able to complete a trade as GM.

Trading frequency is waaay down with the new patch, so it looks like it was a problem after all.

As has been said already 30 team AI minds just woke up from a coma to find a complete organization of 250 players it didn't choose. Given that; 7 trades seems restrained IMO. Turn trades off for a week or two then make it very hard for a while. After that change incrementally until May 30 which is kind of the unofficial real life starting point for trades and see what you get.

Trades will happen and at a higher rate than expected per trade setting because the AI doesn't have emotional ties to players like Human GM's do. As indicated things settle down when each team AI massages the various rosters to its individual tastes.

Finally got a trade completed after bumping AI trade activity up 1 notch above "normal."

I dont like many trades in my ootp game, but its silly to think that busy trade days dont occur IRL.

Took me 10 seconds with google to find this:
Maddux trade caps busy day of deals | MLB.com
A flurry of last-minute deals Monday made it the busiest day for trades since the Winter Meetings as a dozen deals involving 16 teams were made in the final hours leading up to the deadline to make trades without waivers.
Veteran players including Sean Casey, Greg Maddux, Cesar Izturis, Kip Wells, Roberto Hernandez, Oliver Perez, Xavier Nady, Todd Walker, Shawn Chacon, Jeremy Affeldt, Julio Lugo, Jorge Sosa, Kyle Lohse, Rheal Cormier, Denny Bautista, Matt Stairs and Craig wilson found themselves with new teams before the 4 p.m. ET deadline passed.

Another Example: Prior to the trade deadline last year, just counting the month of July, there were 154 trades. That is 5 trades a day for 31 days.

thanks for the info. IMHO I think this is one of the problems with major league baseball today. Teams can drastically revamp their roster and do if they think they have a chance to make the playoffs. This annual "arms race" can make it seem like teams "buy" their championships at times with the short term rental of players and again IMHO cheapen the game of baseball by doing so.

I've used "low" forever.. seems about a perfect setting to me.
