Historical Play Question
Hey, everyone. I'm debating whether to pick this up now or just stick with OOTP16 a little longer, and the function of this could make the decision for me rather quickly. Also, forgive me if its already been answered. I did a quick search/skimming of the forums and couldnt find the answer if it was..
If I utilize the "Historical Minors" feature, does that mean that each year of historical play I will have a full 30+ round (potentially) historical draft? Or with "Historical Minors" enabled do the players just go to the teams that they were rookies with in that given season (i.e. disabling the amateur draft?) Basically, I want to have an amateur draft each year with ALL historical rookies available.. Looking forward to an answer! This will be a game changer for someone like me who plays historical leagues quite heavily.

The historical minor league teams do not appear until 1919, and it is not until 1933 all the teams have minors, but that doesn't mean they all have multiple (or full) minor leagues. In 1919 only two teams have affiliate minors (Det. and Stl. Cards). That is because only minor league teams actually affiliated with the majors are included.
the other questions, not certain. Some one with more knowledge on how the game actually uses the historical minors needs to assist.

You have a proper draft, which means assuming you play with the OOTP dev engine and turn scouting back on (and on low, but that's a personal prefrence), you can play in much the same way you would a modern game, with proper management and guesswork and all. The first decade or two will still be fairly on rails as many of the big players are already past their "learning" stages (1919 being the earliest historical minors can be a thing, so Ruth for example is already on the way to becoming the legend he became) but it seems like it'll start diverging after that to a degree. I would recommend against lowering the TCR though as some suggest for historical play due to this now mind you.
Draft size of course depends on what year, as the minors star off really small, and are more of an indy league than true minor at first. By the way if you're playing around 1960/1970, make sure to draft a little known guy named Randy Poffo, more famously known as OOOOHHH YEEAAAH MACHO MADDNESS. *snaps into a slim jim* But here, went and did an example sim for you with default settings, and here's the 1920-1921 draft pool announcement. ![]() Yep, that's a 17 year old Lou Gehrig, up for grabs for any team. Will be interesting to see how he develops without ALS. For the record in this example playthrough he ended up signed by St Louis after Philly drafted him but failed to sign him before the deadline. The drafts go really long at start though due to high number of player and low number of teams, the 1920 draft was 70 rounds. Also here's the 1st round picks for anyone whose interested.

great write up Silent Thunder! You filled in another of my empty spaces. i didn't really think or realize about where the draft picks (tons of them) were appearing in 1902 etc. . Of course, from the Indy leagues!!! Thanks.

I'll point out I'm not entirety sure if there are historical rookies in pre 1919 games, as I haven't simmed from that far back, as I personally can't stand deadball era games. I was more commenting on the fact that in the earlier years many of the MiLB teams don't have any links to MLB teams. But if someone else can confirm or deny that there are historical rookies pre-1919 that would be wonderful.

Quote:
EDIT: after checking the players available in the 1903 draft (post 1902 season) all the ones i checked played in the majors, and started in 1903. So, i don't know where the other players in my 1902 draft came from really ......(i'll have to create another test league and do more research i guess, but it'll have to wait, most likely, as life is taking a few priorities the new few days, darn it.)
