Trade AI change

Hey there,

I was wondering if there was anyway to tweak the trade AI besides the less often, normal, more often, etc changes?

I have a league that I brought over from OOTP4 into 5 and I must say I don't understand the logic in the trade AI for 5. Granted, 4 probably gave a little too much, but 5 seems fairly resistant to any trade.

As an example, I offered a team who had 6 needs near all-stars/all stars at 4 of them. When I tried to check for different players, there were 4 in their entire organization that they would trade me. And only one at a time. All 4 were 2-3 star players (all average in talent). Seeing as how I was filling 4 of their "needs" and they didn't seem to be willing to trade anything, I tried other teams. I found the same thing happened.

After abandoning that route, I tried letting the AI decide who they would take. (there really should be an option for them to tell me who they will give me after I place players on my block). When placing a player on their block that I desired, I opted for requesting an offer. Every time I did so, they elected someone not even comparable to the selected player.

It seems as though trades can only be made now if you want to give up a lot more than you could possibly get. I also noticed that almost no trade offers come through during the season, whereas in OOTP4, I received at least 20-30.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to tweak this as the lack of a decent trade leaves me fairly unwilling to continue my league.

Thanks and have a good day,

QK

I have seen this also Steve. I have trade frequency on HIGH and have a bad team with many holes. I get a handful of offers per year.

The last offer was a 2star second baseman in return for a 4 star MR in his prime (my main FA signee as well) and one of my top prospects (was a 1st round pick 2 seasons ago).

Pretty steep price.

Is there a way to open up the actual trade window when you get a trade offer via email. It would be nice to be able to counter offer when you get a trade offer via email.

Bumping this way up...Anyone have any tips on the trade front yet...??

Seems extremely difficult to get the AI to give up any prospects at all if you're not offering a top-10 type player...

Looks like I'm not the only one...

Hey I appreciate the responses on this thread.

I actually am somewhat vexed by this as I was a trading fiend in OOTP4, yet have been stifled in OOTP5. It would be one thing if it seemed there were some logical scale, but there generally doesn't seem to be. If I offer a Macguire type of player (ok average, insane hrs), I am usually offered a Jose Offerman in return. Even when I fill a need.

I think the logic needs to be patched.

Have fun all,

QK

I think the trade AI needs work too. The only deal it seems like I can make is a 33 year old MR for the same thing (???) or a decent starter for 5 average prospects.

The FUN of this game is the GMing of a team.

yeah I think the request offer should allow more than one player in yourside of the deal. Also a shop player option should be there.

Simple solution, different taste for many people.

I suggest the following,

Have a choice of what type of trading AI we want:

Very easy, easy, normal, difficult, very difficult.

With those choices I am sure that most of us would be close to being satisfied with one of them.

Yeah this new trading AI is tough, but it's so much better. As stingy as the CPU is iv'e been offered a good deal that I actually took. More than can be said for last years edition. YOU CAN STILL MAKE TRADES,, granted no longer can you trade your 7rated pitcher making 8 MILL/yr, for 4 stud prospects and another 7 pitcher. But i've been able to build my farm system up to where I have 3 of the top 5 prospects, and have also won the WS for 3 straight years. I agree with Buster though in that it would be nice to have different settings.

Because the computer will not allow me to dump my overpaid veterans to fill its needs, I began to experiment with the trading engine.

It is definately rigged against us. Here's why:

My goal was to get Tom Seaver from the Reds (I was the Yankees). I tried trading people like Underwood and Tommy John and tried to fill the Reds' needs with veterans. Nothing. I received the infamous message saying that they will not trade Seaver at all!

Well, I went out of this trading window and put the Reds at the LEFT-side of the screen ("our" side) and my team at the RIGHT-side. Sure enough, I had the ability to get Seaver for almost nothing. (As a sidenote, I did not actually make the trade because it seemed unfair.)

What do you guys think about that?

***I wish the trading part of the game was the same as OOTP4!!!!***

Trading (for me) is so integral to building sucessful teams, ESPECIALLY for dumping high-priced players without RELEASING THEM. In addition, the old system was great for aquiring draft picks you missed...

If only this new trading method could go back.

Yeah, you're right. Just ask Kevin Millwood and Russ Ortiz about not being dumped for lower salary players.

too bad the Yankees still have Mondesi, Hitchcock, White and all the others they can't get rid of ..... when you dump good players like Millwood and Ortiz it's easy ... I got two prospects and two pitchers for Lowe, because he's good ... but when I try and dump a crappy player who makes lots of money, no go ... sounds like you want to dump your 5 mil players for 3, 4 star prospects and you can't do it in the game, nor can you do it in real life ... usually in real life teams have to take almost equal salary back when dumping crappy players (i.e. El Duque)

Yankees STILL HAVE Mondesi? Do you even watch MLB Baseball. They just traded FOR him last season. I get your point, but that was a horrible example.

I am all for the trading AI being tougher than in OOTP4, because it really was too easy to take advantage of computer teams. You could give them 38 year old players who were still good but wouldn't be for much longer and get really good players in their primes and sometimes even incredible prospects.

I haven't messed around with the trading in OOTP5, and I don't like the idea of it being impossible to make good trades, but I definitely think it should be harder than in 4.

EMPTY Trade Block

I agree that the trade AI needs work..

I went through the TRADING BLOCK for all the teams in my league on June 30th and there was NO BODY on the block!?!?

I went to teams that were cash strapped and no one wanted to trade any of their high paid players..

Is it just me, or does it seem realistic that there should be teams with high paid guys at the end of their contracts who probably aren't gonna resign with their current team, and so that team might want to trade the guy if they are not in contention for the playoffs? I've seen some cases of this, but can't ever get the computer to bite on a trade..

It just doesn't seem right to me..
