I am confused

I was very excited to download 17. But since I almost exclusively play historical leagues, I was first disappointed to find that there are no real life facegens of historical players - I understand that it has to do with rights and the Players Association etc. so okay. But since the images of all baseball players are available on Google images for example it would have been nice.

But that is an understandable lack. What is less understandable is why I don't see any of the 3D stadiums, new more realistic graphics on the field during games etc. that everyone is talking about. I will run a 2016 league just to see what they look like. But the only change in graphics I see for historical leagues at all is that the screen is now dark blue/gray and harder to read or see for eyes over 50.

So this is disappointing. Except for the new option to play a single series which is a fun addition, there is no improvement of any kind for players of historical leagues, and since everyone else does have improvements that makes the lack of these more unpleasant.

I paid $40 to download and now wish I had not. Am I missing some optoin I am supposed to click on to get the realistic stadiums or 3D on field play to work for my historical leagues?

I did try setting up a league with historical minors but it took 20 minutes for the game to load.

So for I am not seeing the magic. Too bad. But I may end up playing 16 still and wasting $40 just to be able to read the screen with the old brighter background color.

I am not sure what you mean with "I don't see any 3D stadiums"? The game does not come with historical ballparks (creating them takes a huge amount of time and money), but you should see the action on the default 3D park while playing out games. Use the dropdown on top of the field display to select the 3D mode when playing a game.

Also, what do you mean with "is that the screen is now dark blue/gray", do you refer to the default look of the game? I suggest switching to the classic skin. Go to the main screen (the one when you launch the game), click on Game Settings, and at the top of the dialog you can select the skin.

Creating a league with historical minors does take time of course, the game has to import and rate thousands of players for each year.

Thanks. I apologize for my tone. I have recently had to give up coffee due to some health issues and it was also late at night when I saw the availability of the new version and downloaded it.

Yes, of course the 3D is a mode that I need to set as an option when playing out a game. It is nicer.

I did not know about the skin - will change my settings.

Appreciate all your hard work and also the prompt answer and love the game. Misunderstood what a few of the new features referred to but will gradually get to know them better.

If you got to the adds on central within the game (either at the load screen or if you're in game then on the far left drop down menu) then click add server and type/paste in this at this link... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...359-post3.html

then on the left a list of files at that server will be shown. There is a pack of historical facegens you can download and install (all done within the addons screen) and that adds a lot of historical player facegens to your game.

What you can also do it you want is to change the historical teams parks from the default one to their current 3D park (if you don't mind seeing them play in their modern park) I've done this with my historical game which I'm playing from 2001 with those teams who have changed parks and thus had the default stadium set. This can be done in the team settings/edit ballpark menu. Choose 3d image and select the park within the models folder.

Now that that is done, how do I make those the photos that are used for my league? Do I need to go to League Settings, then Players and Facegen and click on a particular source?

Can you show some examples of what that facegens look like and do you have to restart a game for them to apply?

Thanks.

Go to the OOTP start screen (the screen that appears when you first open the game). Bottom center of the screen: Game Settings. Click on that link. Then go to the 3D & FaceGen tab. Near the bottom is an option to search first for FaceGen pics.

If you want the game to use FaceGen files, you'd want to search for photofit/Facegen first.

It worked ! That is so cool ! What a difference to see actual likenesses of Willie McCovey, Pete Rose and the rest. Thanks to Matt Uk and pstrickert for your help ! Absolutely increases enjoyment of the game. Next stop: trying to use real life stadiums, even if only the modern, current ones.
