Game is fantastic...& some ?'s

Ok...I posted a disappointing post in the impressions thread setup by Markus yesterday. Well...I'm 71 and not too swift on some OOTP stuff even though I've bought the game since it first came out years ago.

Well...I got some nice responses to my somewhat negative post and mostly spent much more time working on the new version.

Let me just say that most of the problems have been cleared up and this game and my anticipation of it are back to sky-high!! Simply a great game.

I had trouble with game screen not showing up well...all stat boxes to the left...field not big...changing settings didn't help...etc. I mainly prefer a full detailed script with the Win10 announcer going full blast. Love that stuff in OOTP16. Had trouble with 3D timing etc but then even in v16 the ball flight would be done way before the full pitch by pitch detailed announcing and I didn't mind that.

Well...I'd say 90% of the problems are solved!! I got some screen advice on the forum and a couple of other suggestions and they helped and then I just kept playing with the settings and shazaam...the screen looks fantastic even in windowed mode. It still fills 95% of my 32" screen...the park takes up over 2/3rds of the screen and the stat boxes are smaller and fit neatly over the sides of the 3D stadium without intruding on the field area...not even close to it!!!

My enhanced enjoyment of v16 greatly increased when I went to Win10 over a month ago and got the nice male voice for audio. I prefer the radio full detailed audio sound. Fantastic. Didn't bother me in v16 that the 3D play completed the ball flight way before the script finished and now that the screen size etc is cool on v17 it still doesn't bother me. But it sure is a lot more baseball like to see the ball flight/player movement for the play!!

I am hooked on OOTP for sure!! No more negative stuff in my anticipation. Thank you to the fellas that gave me further insight and were positive with my disappointing early first look.

Extra cool stuff:
1. Nice to see the 3D ball/player movements even when you do a replay of the previous script. Tried to show my wife the ball flight/player stuff and I kept getting balls/strikes. Then the ball was hit for a double play and she missed it because the ball is so small. : ) Did the replay and she was impressed with the ball flight stuff. We've been married 47 years and I even took Strat stuff with me on our honeymoon. She has seen my baseball gaming play for all those years develop and go from dice to pc...patted me on the shoulder and said something like...'Nice stuff honey...go ahead and play your baseball.' : ) She is so sweet.

Mercy...I've typed too much. I went in and put up Word and typed out all the settings for the Game Settings...Game Options and config so in case I should lose these settings I can hopefully get them back.

Here are a few questions from an OOTP player that is still learning stuff:
1. Just before I went to get out of OOTP so I could do this thread I noticed this line at the very top of the screen:
'Loaded 1994 Season/MLB Season/ Mon Apr 4, 2016 St. L Cardinals 1-0 etc.' Why is it saying 1994 when I started the 2016 season??????

2. The game settings show BALL BIG but in the 3D play it is still very little. Hard to see. Used BIG on v16 fine. ????

3. I there anyway in 3D to have the player field ratings to show etc?????

4. I didn't get my grandsons names in for my manager before playing the first game of the 2016 season...is it possible to go back in and change Jim Smith to my grandson's names (I combine them for one name) without messing up my current settings???

5. When going to the setup screen for Player Evaluation settings with the % for Current year...Stat weight...Previous year etc...how do you set that up so the game plays mostly on the basis of the players stats projected???

May be more questions coming up from this old man. Appreciate the time from those who read this. Sorry it was so long. Hope it doesn't have a lot of spelling errors. Have a great weekend.

OOTP17 is simply FANTASTIC !!!

1. Not sure. I loaded the 1994 Quickstart and I see the proper date. Did you convert this league from OOTP16?

2. This could be a bug. I'll ask on the beta forum.

3. Uncheck the box at the top center of the in-game screen -- the option is for using smaller labels in-game.

4. If you go into Manager's Settings, I believe you can change the name. Be sure to hit ENTER after typing in the first name and after typing in the last name.

5. Increase the % for Ratings Weight. Decrease the % for the Stats Weights.

Wow skunkle333, this gives me great hope that us old guys(no disrespect intended) can still enjoy this game and hobby of ours! I'll be 61 in April, and my wife is away for the weekend, so I'm playing both 16 & 17. I took over an expansion team that I created in 16, and am still having a blast playing that version. But I'm also just "kickin" the tires with 17, and won't get a serious career mode going until mid-week.

Over the years I've played every type of sim game imaginable, but I've lost interest in most, except for OOTP and because I'm also a huge soccer fan, the FM series.(Although the last one I bought was FM14). It's awesome to see your post, and gives me hope that ten years from now I'll still be playing OOTP!

I hope to still be playing OOTP and still showing the wife certain things (even though I know she doesn't REALLY care) when we're in our 70's.
