Credit to the Play-by-Play writers

Gave the 3D animation a shot this year as it looked rather nice. Set the PBP to short as Markus suggested. Played 3-4 games with 3D and liked what I saw, but also felt something was missing. Switched back to broadcast view with extended PBP to see how the game played that way. Straight away I felt much more immersed in the game. The PBP gave me much more information than the 3D, describing close plays at the base, diving catches, near misses on inside pitches.

I know some people have clamoured for the 3D and I can understand that. I tried it myself and it was quite good. But, for me, the detail included in the PBP has reached such a level that the 3D provides a sub-par experience, lacking description of individual plays.

You are allowed to use the extended PBP with the 3D. The main reasons we do not recommend it are simply that the timing won't work out quite as well, and that the action described in the PBP and the action on the field may be slightly different (ie. the PBP might say that the center fielder went to his right and made a sliding catch, and the 3D will show you the center fielder drift to his left and catch it).

We won't disable the detailed PBP, but it's just a question if you really feel that it distracts you when the plays don't match.

*but I will add, big credit to the whole text team. For a text-based game, we get a ton of great work from those guys.

Yeah, tried the 3D with the full PBP but that didn't work at all.

I just take this as a reminder that OOTP is a text-based sim. While some may prefer their action represented in 3D I think the better experience comes from the PBP developed over 16 previous versions.

Yeh, the 3D view does nothing for me at the moment. It feels less dynamic that scripted play-by-play I've read a hundred times. There are too many nonsensical animations (first baseman standing a foot off of the bag while waiting for the pitcher to cover, cut-off man holding the ball while runner advances) that ruin the illusion that what your seeing is determining the outcome rather than the outcome determining what you are seeing.

Was worried about this all along, and it's exactly as it sounds.

The pbp is too good to turn off. I prefer it to the animation.

I understand the frustration but I personally find using the full pbp text (90% pitch by pitch mode unless game is a blowout) is just fine with the 3D.

I was using full script in V16 and just got used to watching the 3D while listening to the late pbp. In V17 I really like the 3D animations and personally find no problem watching the 3D early while waiting for the Win10 announcer to complete the play.

And on key plays you can do Replay and the audio is off but the script and 3D action are on.

So for me I really want the great audio detailed script and the cool looking 3D. Just my thoughts
