Historical players defensive values too high?

Not sure if I'm making too much of this but every historical game I've played so far almost all the players have a positional rating of near max - I mean one team might be this way but this seems to be pretty much across the board.

I know this wasn't this way in 16, has something changed? Something seems off here.

Example here, using the 1980 Brewers team in the two versions.

OOTP 16 - nice dispersion of positional ratings (using 1-20 scale)

OOTP 17 - same team, mostly same players but positional ratings so much higher!

That must be a bug of some sort. I'd suggest posting in the bug reports forum.

Is it possible that this only happens in games with all those minor leaguers? The more 2B you compare Molly against (and there are a lot more to compare him against with all the new guys) the better he might look if you catch my drift.

That's possible.

I'd think especially so if the ratings are set as being relative to AAA or something, but I wouldn't think it should work that way if they're default or relative to MLB. Also, I'd think that might not be the case since if it was Dewey's hitting ratings should be better as well.

I just imported the 1969 season. No minors. Base fielding on import season. I'm seeing about 18 players with a position rating of 80/80 at each position league-wide. Approx. 12 more at 75/80 at each position. Something is definitely messed up.

Thanks pstrickert - yeah think there's definitely a bug - I suspected it when I saw some of the first screenshots after release today but wanted to do a comparison with 16 to be sure.

I'd think that high defensive ratings across the board would suppress offense. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Is the problem a cosmetic one? Maybe the actual ratings are being used to calculate results, regardless of what ratings are displayed on the screen?

If it's a bug I imagine being cosmetic is definitely possible - if it's something in the database (honestly hard to imagine this being missed if so) then maybe not cosmetic.

I have been seeing the same thing, the historical defensive ratings need to be checked.
