JAWS Question
Thanks to all who make this game great. Please note I am only asking this question to better understand what I see. Love this game!
When I look at the players who are ready for the HoF in my New Standard League setup, i like to look at their metrics. I have Jim Edmonds eligible for the HoF in December 2016 and his Jaws in game is 50.6. When i do a search in real life for Jim Edmonds, his Jaws is 51.4 according to Jay Jaffe. JAWS and the 2016 Hall of Fame ballot: Jim Edmonds | SI.com Jeff Bagwell is also different, game (59.8) and real life (63.9). JAWS and the 2016 Hall of Fame ballot: Jeff Bagwell | SI.com My question: What is causing the difference that I see? Is this known and is it a bug? Just want to be sure I understand what I see. Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this for me! |

The main difference for historical stats tends to be defense. When we import stats, we won't necessarily import the same defensive runs saved that other sites like Fangraphs or Baseball Reference use, so player WAR values will shift slightly year over year. I think we end up importing them with a 0 as it would be too challenging to try to convert other defensive metrics to the ones we use internally, so positive defensive players like Bagwell will show a larger WAR dropoff in the game.
We also might apply slightly different variations for other modifiers like park effects or league run adjustments, so we won't be perfectly in line. |
