Elimination Number or Magic Number?

During the Twitch stream someone had asked if we can get elimination number. Matt's response was that there is only so much room on the standings page.

I got to thinking. The more I thought about it the more I realized that if I had to have one or the other I'd rather have the elimination number. It provides more information for all of the teams that you don't get with just the magic number. If you want the magic number all you have to do is look at the 2nd place team.

So, I think that having the elimination number is the wiser choice between the two.

What do you think?

true but adding a third option for what Matt said was that there was no room for that and yet when I looked at the standings page, all I see is empty space under magic number. I got to thinking about that too and makes sense to why not have BOTH.

I was raised with the term Magic Number. I will always call it the magic number. That other term is for other, less magical sports!

I know. But Matt seemed like he wasn't interested in adding elimination number.

I'm old school. I'll take the term Magic Number over Elimination Number any day. Besides, "Elimination Number" sounds like the kind of quota enforced in a North Korean prison camp to reduce the number of mouths to feed.

Funny you say that. When I look at MLB's web page I didn't see Magic Number anywhere but I did see Elimination Number.

I just want to watch/listen to the podcast, and I can't find it anywhere.

No it's about function.

Would you rather just have the Magic number for only 1 team per division or would you rather have the elimination number for every team?

Pawn ... what's wrong with having the magic number for the leader and tragic number for the other teams showing at same time??? No loss of space and would fill up the empty space at same time.

Would be interesting to have the above poll broken down even further. By this I mean, how many of the folks choosing magic number play leagues without wildcards and how many of those who chose elimination number use wildcards. Pawn, until you posted your example, I was wondering why this was even an issue. But, now I see your point.

This was totally not what I was expecting though. I thought, for sure, that people would prefer the additional information if forced to make a choice. I'm very surprised to see that so many people prefer the inferior option just because that was what they grew up with.

I assumed that since that the Elimination number includes the magic number while the magic number does not include the elimination number that people would choose the option with more information.

Unless people are going to start siding up with me I'm not going to post any more polls. If this keeps up I'm taking my ball and going home.
