Realistic Injury Spread
I noticed in OOTP 16 that towards the end of my seasons there would be massive runs of injuries, like 5 - 8 of my starters getting hurt in the last 3 weeks of the season every year. It was quite unrealistic.
Anyone else notice this? Anything done with 17 to make it a bit more realistic? |

I once had all five of my starters go on the DL at the beginning of a season. It was just terrible luck, and not the game. Sample size, like Markus says

Injuries are one of those things that everyone argues over its realism and is very subject to confirmation bias. The fact is that ootp gets this right. Real life data backs it up. The only thing I would say is unrealistic is the instant career ending injuries. No player will ever know the day of their injury that their career is over. Only through subsequent setbacks will they know for sure.

Realistic Injury Spread
Yep. I think overall what I have seen has been a good mix of inconsistency when it comes to injuries. Which I think is a good thing.
I too wished the CEI was handled differently. Over a long stretch of time the player continuing to have setups, then deciding to hang em up This would be more challenging for us as managers and GM"s as it would be harder to just simply give up on the guy rather than knowing day 1 his career is over |

i always have a lot of injuries in Sept. in my games. But then, i tend not to rest to my starting line-up very much, and THAT has to help the injury rate. Ironically if i am in a pennant race, i tend to rest players more in hopes the Sept. curse doesn't return. i think the game get injuries pretty correctly, even if my setting is on low.

"Two pitchers killed in a boating accident"? I doubt if the MLB or the MLPA would like it very much.

Which is what i did to edit out all immediate career ending injuries. Players still have injuries that end their career but now its because of setbacks or an inability to recover. No more "player retires as soon as he is injured"

Hmm Interesting. Is it easy to edit and what would you recommend?

I do it on occasion if I am GM only for a single historic season, not as much fun when Clemente and Mays are out for 6 months if you are only playing a single season.

I meant editing the injuries.txt file itself.

Like others have said, I find injuries to be completely realistic. I always play with them on very high (Realistic Modern Day)
In my Diamondbacks save, I had virtually NO injuries in 2015 and 2016, then BOOM! Brendan Rodgers, Paul Goldschmidt, Robbie Ray, AND Yovanni Gallardo go down with major, months long injuries, needless to say that season was a waste after coming so close in 2016. Then, in 2018, we had almost NO injuries during the season. Goldschmidt once again played all 162 games, along with countless other guys. Somehow, we overachieved like crazy and made the playoffs after beating San Diego on the final day of the season to win the Division. Game 3 of the Divisional Round against St. Louis and BAM! Gallardo goes down with injury in the middle of the game. He had a career year winning 18 games and just signed a 3 year extension. My point is, injuries happen. Sometimes you're VERY lucky, sometimes you're VERY VERY unlucky. I love it though, adds some strategy to the game. |

I would like to trade Cole Hamels in my league because I am afraid he will get injured, and then Kansas City won't want him. They are willing to give me Ventura for Hamels, Roman Quinn and a minor leaguer.
