Well, Mr. Owner

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this...

I enjoy playing as Manager Only so the roster is at the whim of the owner. I am a quarter of the way through the 1977 expansion Seattle Mariners and my owner is "furious" that I am 16-25. (I have it set to "can not be fired", so I have no fear of losing my job), but...

I would like to be able to respond to my owner and tell him that if he had not traded away young starting pitcher Rick Honeycutt, and if starter Rick Jones did not get put on the 60 day disabled list, with the response being the only pitchers that the owner brings up from the minors are relievers with stamina of 1 or 2 (out of 20), which means my bullpen is overused, because I have a couple of starters that struggle to go 5...

Anyways, I would simply like a few options to respond to the owner so he knows that I am unhappy that he traded away Mr. Honeycutt and that I could use another starter or two on the major league roster.

That has to do with the GM not the Owner.

While I rather not shout million of excuses to my owner to why we are losing, I agree with your overall suggestion of being able to communicate with staff.

As manager, I would like to have dialogue with the GM about goals, expectations, possible signings & trades, potential call ups/send downs and etc.

As a GM, I would like dialogue with the owner & manager.

Suggestions to the manager on lineups and pitching staff. Conversations to the owner about goals, roster moves & expectations.

Overall something similar to Football manager.

I agree that some form of communication with the owner/GM/manager is the next step in the evolution of the game.

I think in its initial phase, it could be as simple as suggesting up to 5 goals for your owner. It could be handled almost the way that incentives in contract negotiations are right now; basically you would have a drop-down of the various criteria and a blank value for you to enter.

The categories in the drop-down can be stuff like Win Total, Re-Sign Player, Add a Specific Type of Hitter/Pitcher, Increase/Lower Payroll to, etc.

The blank value would obviously be for you to enter whatever your suggestion is (maybe this box would be grayed out for adding a specific type of player, as there's not really a value to adding a power hitter).

So let's say that, in this past off-season, I wanted to sign Yoenis Cespedes, and I estimate that I'm going to need a payroll of $150 million; I would put Add a Power Hitter as one suggestion and Increase Payroll to $150 million another.

At the same time, there should be a button that says "dispute goal" next to each of the owner's goals the first time that the owner gives them to you.

So basically on the first day of the off-season, the owner gives you goals. You can dispute what you want and make suggestions of your own. Then a few days later, the owner gives you his final goals. How much he accepts or disregards your opinions is based on his personality and patience, your reputation, your win-loss record success, and your ability to accomplish goals in the past.

Also, if you play as GM only, where some managers don't let you influence lineup, you should still be able to give the manager orders about when/where/how to play certain players. The manager might then disobey you; too much micromanaging or tension lowers the manager's morale (based on his reputation and personality, of course) and can lead to negative news stories and can lower the team's morale if the team doesn't win, so you better be right.

I really like the ipad version where the manager will provide a limited comment about a proposed trade. I may still make a bad trade, but some friendly feedback would be a welcome addition.
