Sound causing crashing

When I initiate the game, and it's generating the sound before making it into the actual game... OOTP freezes, and it sucks up an obscene amount of CPU/memory resources. Not just the usual mammoth amount OOTP takes up, this is a level i've never seen before. It took me 6 minutes just to ctrl+alt+delete out of the game because it took the computer so long to recognize keystrokes and mouse commands. It does this every time, too.

example: you know how in Windows the programs on the bottom of the screen slide in pretty quickly or slide out? I saw it go frame by frame it was running so slowly when the program manager was attempting to pop up.

I'm going to try to run it without sound, but just thought i'd let you guys know.

Same lock up problem with me. I'm running xp and direct x 9.0. I've disabled the sound and I can at least play the games but obviously would like the full experience. Is this sound problem being addressed in the patch?

Same cards?

Do you guys all have the same sound cards? Have you tried updating the drivers for them? I know it sounds lame, but updating drivers can solve a lot of issues.

I have the same problem when simming... as soon as it gets to a game break (ie.. for a no-hitter) it goes to initializing sound and locks there...

I'm running on Windows 98, Creative SB LIVE sound card... I also have direct x 9.0 installed...
