Anybody sim a bunch of seasons?
Anybody sim a bunch of seasons last night? Any interesting stats you wanna share?
I started a 24 team fictional league with a fantasy draft. The #1 overall pick of the draft was a pitcher named Shawn Simoneau. In 2007 he k'd 380 guys and in 2008 he k'd 441 with a 14.9 k/ip. |

It took me roughly 21-22 minutes per season.

I think it sims multi seasons fairly quickly. I let mine run 42 seasons last night and had some interesting results.
Despite people saying guys are dieing out way to early, the best starting pitcher of the sim retired at 42 still rated 8 in avoiding runs, with over 300 wins and over 5000 strikeouts. 11 guys achieved 600+ home runs 9 achieved 3000+ hits 25 achieved 200+ wins One player managed over 2000 rbi, 2000 runs, 3000 hits and 600 homers. Some fine careers for a game that allegedly wont let guys be productive at an old age. |

I simmed approx 50 seasons over night last night. I agree with clarnzz, had some outstanding careers.

I want to sim multiple seasons but I am one of those guys that save the html exports for every year and save the league folder every year, I have been burned to many time by OOTP.
Have you guys ran into any problems at all like mixed up stats or double year stats or anything?? |

The "almanac" can take the place of saving all the extra folders as it will do the work automatically if you set it to do so.

The more seasons I run and look over the more impressed I become with the OOTP5 development system.
One of my biggest turnoffs in OOTP4 was that the natural progession of talents was to have many high rated players to where it was hard to discern between players. In OOTP5 I am much more impressed with the game not just handing out high ratings to everyone in sight. High ratings guys seem to be more rare thusfore making it more possible for a fictional player to break away from the pack and have a 65+ homer season. If your expecting your OOTP4 and OOTP5 ratings and talents to match up you are going to be very dissapointed, version 5 seems to be more modest in its rating and talent assignments. I have seen this turning out to be a great thing resulting in better statistic diversity. If you let go anything you are expecting to happen because thats the way it happened in v4, I think you will find version 5 results to simulations alot more appealing and realistic. Granted some tweaking may be needed, but Im much happier with the player development in version 5 after seeing more results. Edit- Damn me and my spelling. I have been extremely impressed with the range of player development in OOTP5. There is much more variation to the careers of fictional players than past versions.
Here is an example of the diversity. My alltime homerun king Antonio Lomeli enjoyed his best power seasons from ages 34-37 and finished with 23 homers at age 39. For his career he hit 668 round trippers. I am using the golden era setting with a 154 game schedule and 4 man rotations. The only other player with over 600 homers played until he was 42 years old. He hit 21 homers at age 41. However, a player I figured was going to become the alltime HR king after hitting 312 homers before he turned 30 has seen his production drop the past 4 seasons and now at age 36 will be lucky to top the 500 homer mark. Maybe I am reading too much into the player development but his body type could be the reason for the breakdown. He is 5'11", 220 lbs and perhaps he has just worn down. If Markus factored that in to the player development I am truely amazed. I don't think he went into that much detail but my point is before accusing the game of stunting too many players development before age 35 sim 100 seasons and look at the results. I was never a fan of fictional sims prefering historical but I am getting more and more into fictional as I look at all the varied careers in a 50 season sim.

I just cant stop simming this league, another 40 seasons last night. The player diversity with fictional players has advanced leaps and bounds. Even after 90 seasons certain players stand out from the pack.
John Cain even had back to back 70+ home run seasons and with ratings people would of found unimpressive in version 4, 5 contact and 12 power. I am so happy that every star in the league isnt rated 6 + contact 9 + power and all 25 of em hit 40-50 home runs a season for 14 straight years and all decline at the same age. Luis Shealy may never be outdone no matter how many years I sim. Last edited by clarnzz; 03-02-2003 at 11:47 AM. |
