Cloud-based version?

This may have been mentioned before, but didn't pop up in my searches of the forum...

Even with a new-ish PC the most frustrating thing about the game is the time required to sim a day. Yeah, I know, it doesn't help that I'm playing with a worldwide universe. But that's a big part of what makes the game so interesting.

So...how about relieving us of having to provide the computing power? A version that is hosted on powerful servers out there on the interwebz. Access your team via web browser or mobile app. Play all by your lonesome or as part of a massive, complex universe with dozens (hundreds?) of GM's and managers. Developers can feel free to go nuts with new features without having to worry about PC power constraints.

Yep, would be a major change in the way things are done. Just wanted to throw it out there.

The structure and size of the league files is a massive problem. For Steams cloud based saves their maximum saved game size is smaller than some OOTP files.

How much and how to bill are the real issues... and how long to support a version... when to force an upgrade...

A massive problem that disappears if everything is in the cloud to begin with.

How exactly does it disappear?

How, I have few leagues and none of them are big. My saved games folder is 16 gigs. How does that disappear? The majority of the data is specific to my league and is not repeatable to save for multiple games.

Don't get me wrong, I think the idea has merit. MMOs work very well in some situations.

I would probably stop buying if this went to an online platform.

I think this would probably if not likely happen to many of OOTP's customers - myself included.

Okay, yeah, the files don't disappear - but you don't have to worry about them because they're generated on the server and they stay on the server. Storage on the server would be among the least of the issues in setting this up.

Not sure why you would feel that way. Done well, it wouldn't have to be noticeable that you were playing online. Regardless, there's no reason it couldn't be a supercharged alternative version instead of a replacement.

Really simple. I don't feel that I should be locked into a format ie online whether or not it is visible to me or not. I often travel to remote locations with no online access and I 100% expect my software to work seamlessly in that mode. I especially detest browser based formats of any type. It's a buying decision that doesn't need justification IMO.

As for the concept of it being an alternative, I'd be concerned that one or the other mode would suffer in quality due to split priorities. That's why I wouldn't support it with my money.
